RandomAnthony | 14536 comments The college basketball conference tournaments are wrapping us this weekend...culminating with selection Sunday for the men and selection Monday (I think) for the women. Anyone watching? Predictions? Here in Wisconsin people had high hopes for Marquette until D. James got hurt...they lost a tough one today.

On the women's side, Connecticut is one of the most dominant teams I have ever seen. They destroy everybody.

Matthieu | 1009 comments I'm so proud of my Wildcats! ...And Pitt!

PA pride.

If the Tigers weren't so FREAKIN' MEDIOCRE, maybe I'd pay more attention to the Ivy conference...! On the other hand, Cornell is ridiculous!

message 3: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 538 comments Er. I don't know enough to tell whether it counts for anything beyond the west coast, but I try to keep up with Pac-10?

I'm more into football than basketball, but it's the same for both: Cal is always so hopeful and always so disappointing. As I type, we're losing to 6th-seeded USC (though I guess it IS only the 1st quarter). We were ranked 3rd, but in my experience, that's not saying much as we've lost many games to lower-ranked teams.

Matthieu | 1009 comments Ah! Syracuse/UConn... quintuple overtime!...

message 5: by Nuri (new)

Nuri (nools) | 538 comments 79-75, SC won. I understood when it was football, but basketball, too? T_T

I tried not to get my hopes up, but I still feel sad.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Quintuple overtime? SIX???? Holy crap. Must check sports illustrated's website.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i am sure sally is loving this thread. (already been to ESPN.com this morning RA)

message 8: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Nools, man, the PAC ten dominates football...let the rest of the country have some success, too:)

Kevin, Sally is probably thinking "tournament? What are they talking about?" then opening the thread and rolling her eyes:)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I know I was disappointed.

message 10: by RandomAnthony (last edited Mar 13, 2009 10:32AM) (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I understand, Jackie. Washington sports have had a couple of rough years:)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments It could have been about knights, or chess, or even Jeopardy's Tournament of Champions. But noooooo, this thread had to be about basketball.

:::sigh:::

message 12: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Jackie...is that you in that Washington Husky costume, chomping on an Oregon duck?

Matthieu | 1009 comments I'm sorry you don't enjoy sports, Jackie...

message 14: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Let the jousting tournament begin! I will fight for Jackie's honor!

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Matthew wrote: "I'm sorry you don't enjoy sports, Jackie..."

Thanks, Matthew. I enjoy bowling, when I'm the one doing it. But yeah, most sports are pretty dull. Not much plot, you know?

RA, the link for the picture doesn't work. And, my honor is in question? Since when?

message 16: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 1009 comments I don't know, it's just difficult for me to imagine my life without sports... The inability to participate in Pton's baseball season is unbearably frustrating. Damn, arm...

message 17: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Hm. Link works for me...let me get another one...

http://thefurtiveglance.com/wordpress...

Hm. And let me rephrase that. I'll joust to uphold Jackie's honor.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments The Husky/Duck picture, I mean, RA. I get a Not Authorized message.

message 19: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Well then. Maybe they decided you're not a big enough fan to see.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'm okay with that. :D

message 21: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i am not much of a sports enthusiast.....

YEAH RIGHT !!!! i am a fanatic. baseball is my #1 sports love but i am interested in them all. i would def watch jousting but only if they let me try. i would sooo do that

message 22: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I thought the seeding show was good...should be an interesting tournament.

One of my friends from work is taking off Thursday and Friday so he can watch in the comfort of his own home.

message 23: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments The computer picks North Carolina!

Sorry, Gus...

message 24: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Obama is supposed to be announcing his brackets some time today.

message 25: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments He picks Pitt to go all the way...his final four is already out...I think he went with three top seeds and Memphis.

See? Watching the tv in the morning at the gym does give you useful information...

And I think it's way cool to have a president who fills out a bracket.

message 26: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments To step away from the madness of March for a moment, I just found out that AC Milan and Chelsea are doing six expo soccer matches in the US, and one of them is in Baltimore! A couple in California, one in Atlanta, one in Mass., one in Texas.
Anybody else excited?
Yes! No?
Anybody?

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I would be if I was anywhere close enough to go see them.

message 28: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I'll wave to you on ESPN...

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Should I look for David Bowie?

message 30: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments NO, the wig is too hot for July outdoors.

I'm glad to see that this sports thread has come to cross-dressing superstars. All sports threads should.

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments ...well, I'm not really a superstar just yet. B-list, at best.

:)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Hear, hear!

message 34: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Maybe KD and I should form a Goodreads supergroup. Like the Rock Bottom Remainders (was that their name? With Amy Tan and Dave Barry and Stephen King?) but, y'know, better?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Good idea, Sarah Pi! Seizure Romero's a musician, too.

message 36: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Oh, excellent.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments And I play clarinet... ; )

message 38: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Classical, jazz, or klezmer?

This will be quite the mighty supergroup.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Fight songs, Sarah Pi. Go, Fight, Win!

message 40: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i put two kids through Ball State University and i saw where their womens team beat Tenn for maybe the biggest upset ever in womens NCAA basketball

that is about as in to the tournament as i get

message 41: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I think the women's tournament should be offset from the men's. It's pretty phenomenal -- UConn, in particular, of course -- and deserves more press than it gets in the shadow of its big brother.

message 42: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments UCONN and TENN rule (usually)WNCAA

message 43: by Lori (new)

Lori *enters thread to take a look*
*backs away, closing door gently behind her*

message 44: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Tennessee's women are already out!

Pat Summitt is crazy in a good way. I heard she freaked out on her players and threatened to make them find their way home from away games on their own.

message 45: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 1009 comments Ball St. stomped on the Lady Vols. It was a beautiful moment.

message 46: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments yup, all my money sent to the busar's office at BSU came in handy it seems

message 47: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 1009 comments Pitt! Yes!

Go Wildcats! Fuck Duke!

Pennsylvania!

message 48: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Duke got an ass-whooping! Whoo! And Missouri knocked out Memphis.

I don't know how Pitt keeps winning. They're playing with fire, falling behind early a couple games in a row.

message 49: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 1009 comments VILLANOVA!

message 50: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Were I to have a bracket, my bracket would have died when Pitt lost.

Michigan State/Louisville was a great game, too...
