Josie | 1967 comments Steph, I know you haven't chosen it but I really liked Tempest's Legacy - I think I gave it 5 stars (though that's not uncommon with me :P)
Kat, I've never heard of your book but it sounds very interesting, will be intrigued to know what you think of it :)

message 56: by [deleted user] (new)

Good choice Josie, I'm planned on reading that series next month with a friend so your review will get me some insight into what the series will be like :)

message 57: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Jan 26, 2013 09:26PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Thanks, Josie. I'll definitely be reading it. I'll probably use it for our next green spot. :)

Did you guys see? T5 jumped to spot #101 with a lucky fantasy forward draw! Depending on how things play out in future weeks, this could be a very quick round.

I created a spreadsheet as a quick reference for where on the board each team lands weekly. You can access it here. :)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments WOW T5 was very lucky indeed.

I'm in a middle of two books right now, I will try to finish off one of them tonight and start some with green cover tomorrow. I'm still not sure what I will read. Something from this list:

Ezi I think your first choice should be fine it's like a pale green :)

message 62: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I would agree :)

I've finished the book I was reading so now I can move onto Doubleblind :D

Can someone just run past the rules of how long we get to read - does everyone have to be finished by next Sunday before drawing another card? If not, are we not allowed to draw or do we just not move and go onto the next card? I'm not worried or anything since I usually finish but I'm just wondering lol!

Everyone on your team must have read, rated & reviewed by the time a card is due to be drawn, if not your team must wait till the following JST Sunday to draw a card, in effect you lose a week, like losing a turn.

I was going to say it was more yellow than green, but when I looked at the book page I see an alternate that is very yellow which makes this one look like a pale green. LOL!

Josie | 1967 comments Stealing Parker (Hundred Oaks, #2) by Miranda Kenneally

Title/Author: Stealing Parker by Miranda Kenneally
Date finished: 28th January
Rating: ★★★1/2
Review: This is the second one in the series, and I probably would've liked it better than the first if I didn't have a couple of problems with it.

The main one is that it's quite religious - I don't remember 'Catching Jordan' being quite as religious as this one. Parker, the heroine, has lost her faith (though she still keeps talking to God) in her Church because of how they treated her family after her mother left for another woman. It's not that I'm against religion or anything but I don't like it in books and I just can't relate to the whole small-town mentality and the narrow mindedness of everyone. The concept was quite good though, I liked that there was a different take on the main character - getting with lots of guys etc instead of being whiter than white (though she still had her virginity in tact which is the most important thing of course *rolls eyes*). Like with the first one, there is a lot of sport and being from the UK, had no idea of any of the terms, but it isn't too bad. I like that they have goals but I would like it if males were not the main character's only friends - not all of the female sex are bitchy and jealous.

It ended quite abruptly as well - we didn't get to know what happened to some of the characters (view spoiler) and some were underdeveloped - Ryan, her dad and Veena (I think that's her name) for example. Maybe we'll see them in the next book. I'm not sure if I'll carry on, I probably will only because the fourth is about horses and I like horses :P

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Soul Trade (Black London, #5)
Soul Trade by Caitlin Kittredge (Black London #5)
Spot: #3 / Green
Read: 29 Jan
Rating: 3.5★
Review:
In Soul Trade, Pete and Jack must travel to Manchester. Pete's been marked, if she doesn't attend the gathering of the Prometheus Club she'll die. Despite the bad memories and having left there at age 15 planning never to return, Jack returns to his hometown aside Pete. Once at the club they are surprised to find it completely devoid of magic, a "dead space in the invisible tides of the Black". They tell her that by joining with them she will be protected against the end of times.

Between the Morrigan's determination to have Jack, the Prince Demon Belial popping up again, and a long lost family member making an appearance Pete and Jack have their hands full as they battle their way out of trouble.
"How many times can you save him before you accept that you're a bigger piece of this than Jack ever was, Pete?"
Like it or not, at least in this installment, Pete is the leader of the pair. I'm interested to see how things will play out in Dark Days due out in April, which Caitlin said, "wraps up the first major story arc of the series".

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments Anyone But You by Jennifer Crusie

Book Anyone But You by Jennifer Crusie
SPOT #3: Green Cover
Rating: 4 stars
Finished on 1/28/13
Review: This book was a little entertaining but so completely predictable. It featured Nina, 40 year old divorcee, who decided that instead of a man, she would get a dog. It was much safer for the heart and much less drama in her life. Her dog began climbing into the window of a neighbor and that is how she met Alex, a 30 year old doctor. You can pretty much guess what happens from here.

What I did like was that both Nina and Alex both had childhood trauma that prevented them from fully giving their hearts to someone. But once they got to know each other, they slowly began to deal with their past pains, which were all family related. Alex wins the award for the most Jacked up family. No wonder he wore daffy duck boxer shorts as a 30 year old doctor!

It was a light and uncomplicated story. It had enough substance to make this book worth reading. I would recommend this story to someone who wants a very light adult romance after you read something really heavy.

Splintered by A.G. Howard

Splintered By A.G. Howard
Finished: Jan 31, 13
Card/Color: 3/Green Cover
Rating 4 Stars

Review:
First off I going to say that this was the most imaginative re-telling of The Alice in Wonderland story that I have had the pleasure of reading.

The story it's self was told from the point of view Alyssa the descendant of the original Alice who is tasked with a unbelievable mission to put right the wrongs Alice left in Wonderland many years before in the hopes of freeing her Mother from the family curse.

Splintered was a fantastic thrill ride down the rabbit hole into a world that was full of vivid imagery and unforgettable characters that will linger in my mind for some time to come.

So if your looking for something new and just a little different to read this book definitely fit the bill :)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) | 2441 comments Alliance Forged (The Light Blade, #2) by Kylie Griffin

Alliance Forged (The Light Blade, #2) by Kylie Griffin
Date finished: 01.Feb.2013.
Rating: 2.5 stars
Review:

I read first book in 'The Light Blades' series last year and the best thing about Vengeance Born was beautiful cover. Before abandoning 'The Light Blades' series, I decided to give it another chance by reading Alliance Forged. So here is my second attempt to visit the world of The Light Blades (human warriors) and Na'Reish (vampires blood-drinking evil demons).
Sadly, the problems from the first book are all still here. No world building whatsoever. Focus of the story is romance between Varian (half-human half-demon) and Kymora (Temple elect - kind of main temple priestess). And that romance advances so slowly... Frankly, first 60% of the book are simply boring with Varian thinking and obsessing about his problems and reasons why they should not be together and Kymora trying to advance their relationship. To make it even worse, Kymora is prone to religious statements about hope, belief etc. This sounds inspirational the first time, but by the tenth time she says 'Let the Lady guide you' or something similar I just wanted to DNF this book.
Last 30-40% of book were less boring with a lot more action and finally some advance on romance level. But still, this was not enough for me to forget how this book almost bored me to death. And after such a slow start the ending seemed rushed when million things happened in last two chapters.
Will I be reading next book in series? No. This series is definitely not for me.
