I never would of thought of pride and prejudice as being a girls book. It's such a great known classic so I don't think it would be categorised as a book for girls. So in my opinion, no.

Not as good. Found the first half quite boring, but the second half picked up with the excitement factor. What did you think?

Yeah the clock thing was a bit confusing. I did read the third one and I actually was disappointed with the ending of the series. I really expected more with all the dramatics. How about you?

I know, it was all very war-type and to be honest with you I've forgotten most of the storyline in the third in the series more so than the first two. I always think that the first in book series are always best.
It's young adult... Hmmm horror, mystery? Don't really know how to explain, but I've just finished the third in the series (there's 6) and I think it's very intriguing. My favourite was the first and I also thought the third was good. I wasn't very impressed with the second as it was a bit bland at times and repetitive.

It's about angels(don't laugh) and lycanthropes and basically murder cases in 1800's London.

Hi, I'm Clive and I am new to the group.
Thought I would recommend a tasty read I read over the Christmas period. If you like a thriller which is far more than just a thriller and a fiesty protagonist, you may enjoy A Sealed Fate.
The book is a unique blend of chick-lit and thriller in an unusual setting and with an unusual theme at the centre - the concept of sacrificial and compensatory karma. The author revs up the tension with her main character, the singer and wannabe rock star, Valda, who speeds through life in a sequence of emotional car crashes until she washes up on Dubai's shores at the feet of the mysterious Sheikh, who, whilst pretending to be her patron, has his own needs to satisfy. And boy does Valda satisfy them until she realises, when in very deep, that she has predecessors with the same experience. The only problem is she can't consult them because they are all dead - in suspicious circumstances. So what does a resourceful girl do when she needs her fortune telling? She consults an astrologer. Enter Lara, who has a name to come in this book. There are little oases of stillness when the author takes us on leisurely tours of the City State's night spots and its haute cuisine; we rub shoulders with the beautiful and rich but we never travel far from that nagging question of destiny and the price you have to pay to change it. The work builds up to a tense and truly novel conclusion and, if I had a beef, it would be that she takes the ending by storm instead of allowing us to savour it a little more. All in all a cracking debut with some very good stuff going on in there.
Hi Clive, welcome to the group. It's great to have you with us. Sounds like an interesting book. Maybe you'd like me to transfer it over to the February group read nominations as your nomination? Let me know.
Thanks,
Jack

I've read girl missing. A really great read.

Well, just going to see if there are any more posts and then I'm going to try and sleep. It's already 8.10am here and I've been up all night (I'm an insomniac LOL) Must say, I'm loving this new group :)
Ah thanks Lynn, it's pretty late in Ireland too, 12:30AM! Sounds like a sad story, but definitely looks lie a book I would read. I'm happy that you're enjoying the group. :-)

I have to say, I've been a pretty tough critic with my book revies this year. What's your approach to book reviews? Are you straight to the point or do you like to explain your reasons with detail?

@ Kyle, I'm so sad to hear that your grandmother had Munchausens by Proxy. It's a terrible disease to have. I'm happy she was able to go and stay with her sister though.

That's exactly how I feel Peach. I like to write blunt reviews but like reading reviews with a story summary.

I also generally try to support WHY I liked or disliked a book or comment on an aspect that would appeal to other readers (or very rarely a warning as to why to stay away)
As to my favorite book of last year... I'd say The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was probably the least known of the books I rated 5 stars last year. So far this year Stuck in Neutral is page per page the best. I gave it 5 stars and it was only 114 pages I think. Both are great books that allow you to inhabit very unique points of view for a time. Books like that truly broaden the mind. Stuck in Neutral's also very little known. Truly, an unsung work of genius.
Which reminds me, please check out a Listopia list I created for Unsung Works of Genius
http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/29...
The books on the list are ones you'd rate 5 stars and yet which have very few GoodReads ratings. By all means vote on ones you liked and/or add new ones that meet the criteria.
