So guys, do you prefer to read your books on a kindle/tablet or just read a good old fashioned book?

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Kindle...the old school kindle with the keyboard for reading... Fire for multi-media and book with lots of pictures and Graphic Novels.

I like using my ipad mini for reading books as its easier and more convenient but I also like having the actual book in my hands while I'm reading it. So it's either way for me.

Hi everyone,
Do any of you have books that you wish would be made into movies?

message 6: by Jack, Founder (new)

Jack (jack_) | 2831 comments Mod
I wish that the "Gone" series would be made into a film. Great storyline.

message 7: by MJ (new)

MJ (thatawkwardnerd) I'd like to see Ready Player One Ready Player One by Ernest Cline I've heard that it's actually in the works to be turned into a film. The author is also a screen writer. He wrote the movie Fan Boys.

I love the Gone series and I think it would be great as a film.

Don't you just hate dark evenings!

So what's the weather like wherever you are in the world?

message 13: by MJ (new)

MJ (thatawkwardnerd) A little bit chilly. It's -5ºc but with the wind chill it makes it feel like -11ºc. Its not too bad it was much colder a few weeks ago.

Well here in Dublin it's just about 0 degrees but very damp.

Did anyone watch the Super Bowl? What was your favourite part? The commercials are always the highlight for me.

DENISA HOWE | 1697 comments Jack wrote: "So what's the weather like wherever you are in the world?"

I am in Oklahoma sooooo it is 70 one day and 43 the next, warm rain showers one evening and ice the next am... Its like a bookshelf of books, many different ones and I pick a different one each day lol

I love the commercials too and the snacks...

Wow, that must be hard to cope with. I know that the weather always determines my mood for the day.

message 19: by DENISA (new)

DENISA HOWE | 1697 comments It might affect my mood but you can make it positive...Gloomy cold pick a mystery or scary book or do the opposite and eat ice cream for breakfast in front of the fire... Its not bad... lived here all my life. Its only like this through Dec to March after that it is pretty predictable. Much better then our tornado season..

Jack (jack_) | 2831 comments Mod
Yes, I guess I'm lucky that in Ireland we don't have any major weather conditions except for the odd flood or snow storm.

Haha. It's actually an ipad mini!

message 27: by Peach (new)

Peach (peachst) | 68 comments I use my desktop computer, a netbook, and android tablet. The app for android tablets is really good.

message 28: by Jack, Founder (new)

Jack (jack_) | 2831 comments Mod
Is it Peach? I'll have to try it out on my android phone.

message 29: by Sophia (new)

Sophia | 60 comments Laptop and iPad. I use the app for some things, but I find it has too many limitations, so I alternate between that and just pulling up the website on Safari.

message 30: by Jack, Founder (new)

Jack (jack_) | 2831 comments Mod
Yes, I find that there are a lot of limitations to the app so I generally just use my computer.

message 31: by Peach (new)

Peach (peachst) | 68 comments Me too if I'm coming into the groups. And I don't think the app shows that books read widget on the home page either.

message 32: by Jack, Founder (new)

Jack (jack_) | 2831 comments Mod
No, it doesn't. Hopefully the app will be improved

Is reading faster on an ereader for anyone?

message 34: by Marie (new)

Marie (fyeahmarie) | 135 comments Jack wrote: "Is reading faster on an ereader for anyone?"

For me, yes, because I can read on my phone and iPad. I also love to highlight and take notes on ebooks. More often than not, if I loved the ebook then I will buy the hard copy as well.

message 35: by Jack, Founder (new)

Jack (jack_) | 2831 comments Mod
Me too. I don't like reading on an ereader at all. I only read books on an ereader if they are on sale in the kindle store. For example, I just bought "Life of Pi" for 20c.

message 36: by Peach (new)

Peach (peachst) | 68 comments I love my e-reader, though I still like the feel of a real book. I don't read on my phone though, too small. Most e-readers you can adjust text size.

What are your views with enabling half-star ratings on goodreads? This conflict has been going on fir a while within goodreads and the goodreads team have clearly stated that half-stars want be happening anytime soon, but in my opinion I think that the members should have it if they want it. I would really like to have the ability to rate my books with half-stars as I usually rate and review my books out of ten. What is everyone else's views on this topic?

message 38: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 610 comments I'm for half star. 1 to 5 is too narrow

message 39: by DENISA (new)

DENISA HOWE | 1697 comments I am also for half stars..

message 40: by Sophia (new)

Sophia | 60 comments Half stars would definitely be beneficial. I don't give 5-star ratings lightly - the book has to blow me out of the water for me to even consider it. Though several books I've read recently were well deserving of four-and-a-half and I only gave four.

message 42: by Lucy (new)

Lucy | 22 comments Guess I'm a little late for the first question, but I figured I'd just throw my two cents in. I have been something of a "book snob" in the past. I swore I would never get an electronic reading device! However, over a year ago I got a Kindle as a gift...and I have to confess that I fell in love with it! For someone who is a book lover like me, and who will read a tube of toothpaste if nothing else is available, having literally hundreds of books at my fingertips is heaven! And I'm also thrilled with the amount of classic literature available for free! I will always have "real" books, I could never give them up completely (plus I like to read in the bath...and that would be ill-advised with the Kindle :) ), but I've eaten my humble pie and have to admit that the Kindle is one of the best gifts I've ever gotten.

I agree and now my daughter has one and we loan books back and forth on the kindle just like we did with books... however books are sill my favorite

message 44: by Peach (new)

Peach (peachst) | 68 comments All the free classics are a huge plus for e-readers. I also will, on occasion adn if it's a really thick book, use the e-reader version while I'm out and the book at home. I prefer the regular, non-lit e-readers though. The lit screen on my tablet gets to my eyes (prone to eye strain), which is why I don't read books on my desktop computer either.

message 45: by DENISA (new)

DENISA HOWE | 1697 comments The classics were one of the first things I downloaded... Jane Austin... yea baby
