I'm re-reading Pride and Prejudice, inspired by an issue of the Jane Austen's Regency World magazine that I got a few weeks ago. The focus was on Pride and Prejudice since it's the 200th anniversary this year! I also started watching the 1980 BBC miniseries with David Rintoul but it's not keeping my interest. Rintoul, who plays Darcy, is such an inexpressive fish! Every line is exactly the same and I honestly don't know why the writer in the Jane Austen's Regency World magazine was raving about his performance. So far, he hasn't done anything to make him better than Colin Firth, who could be cold but expressive enough to make me fall in love with him.

So to "cleanse" myself of this unpleasant Darcy, I started reading the book again. I think I still like Captain Wentworth better than Darcy, but P&P is still one of my favorite books of all time. :)

What are you reading this week?

Oh Camy that version of P&P has a special place in my heart as it is the first P&P production I ever watched and was my favorite for years. I do like Colin Firth as Darcy, but I also love David Rintoul. His looks are so stuck up like I imagine the "real" Darcy to be. Looking down his nose at everyone. It is always interesting to me that we all have different tastes :)

I just finished a book called WOUNDS by Alton Gansky and haven't started another one yet.

Shatara (lovepinkish) | 17 comments I'm reading Narrow Escape when I'm finished up next is My Deadly Valentine: Dangerous Admirer\Dark Obsession since V-Day is coming up!

message 9: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollymag321) | 22 comments I'm finishing up The Crystal Scepter. I love how C.S. Lakin tells her stories. I can't wait to go back and read the entire series again one after another. (Though they don't have to be read in order.
I just started Gail Sattler's The Narrow Path. My first impression after reading for awhile at lunch is this is going to be another good book.
Heading to a conference in San Jose this week which means I should have time for a lot of reading in the evenings and "down times."

Well, I'll keep at it to see if he improves. So far he's incredibly unlikeable to me and I can't see how Lizzie falls in love with him, but then again, she doesn't start doing so until later in the book anyway. :)

The RWA conference has readers attend, also the Romantic Times conference and the Librarians Association conference. They're secular, though, and I don't know if Lena attends those.

message 33: by H.L. (new)

H.L. Wegley (hlwegley) | 18 comments I finished reading Christy Barritt's Key Witness and posted a review on Goodreads. I intended to start the copy of Camy's novel, Narrow Escape, that I won in a book giveaway, but my wife grabbed it first and said she won't give it back until she's finished. So I sat down and wrote 3 chapters for my current WIP, a thriller that's about 1/3 finished.

Susan Faloon | 29 comments I'm over half way through Jane Kirkpatrick's, One Glorious Ambition, The Compassionate Crusade of Dorothea Dix for review. It is a fictionalized account of Dorothea's life from childhood on. I'll be recommending it for anyone who enjoys history and has interest in the reformation of care of the mentally ill.

I read one or two Jane Kirkpatrick books--her research is always so amazing! I feel like I'm right there in the time period.

Camy, I read somewhere that you were looking for ways to simplify your life and cutting some things out. I'm always on a mission to do that as well. The most freeing thing I did this week was stop my FB notifications from going to email. I'm sure I miss some things, but it's been worth the risk. I love my hobbies especially reading and this has allowed me more time to read. Loving it. Blessings to all. "

I can relate! I felt that way when I stopped my FB notifications in my inbox, too!

I've always been like this...I feel like I have to finish a book I start. I guess I think you can still gain something from reading the book even though you don't care for it.

message 48: by Susan (new)

Susan Faloon | 29 comments I'm the same way Rose. I rarely set a book aside that I don't like. One exception is Agatha Christie. I simply could not get into one of her books. I tried reading it two different times.

I used to be like that. But when I started writing and realizing that I needed to read books for my field, and realizing how many books I needed to read, I just didn't have the time to finish all the books I started. But also, I'm a very slow reader. My friend Danica Favorite is a super fast reader and she finishes all the books she reads. I think her reading speed is one reason why she does that. :)
