Shereen Vedam | 305 comments My current TV mystery favorites are Sherlock (UK) and Elementary (US).

As for reading, I tend to devour mysteries mixed with fantasy or romance, though I do read some straight mysteries as well (of the cozy kind).

Looking forward to chatting with like-minded people.

Bill Welcome to the group, Shereen. I enjoy the Sherlock series as well. I almost didn't bother trying Elementary, but finally watched an episode and it's actually quite good. Nicely different from Sherlock and I do like Lucy Liu as Watson, didn't think I would.

Shereen Vedam | 305 comments Me, too! I took to Sherlock right away but Elementary took a bit of getting used to, but now it has definitely grown on me. The series seems to be getting better with time.

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1743 comments Hi Shereen, welcome, I also watch Elementary but also into the new shoiw The Following which is very good.

Shereen Vedam | 305 comments Agree, Linda,

I did try The Following, good actors (love Kevin Bacon), but not sure I like the idea of a serial killer with a following (probably too realistic for me).

Did I mention I prefer to live in a fantasy world? :)

Welcome Shereen. I do agree that Elementary seems to be getting better with time.

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1743 comments I agree The Following isn't for some people, but I'm really enjoying it.

Bill We watched the first episode of the Following. It's pretty powerful stuff... spent part of the show watching through my fingers.

I'll say that I'm watching The Following right now. Probably be my last time watching it. Elementary is a great show.

message 10: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Rubin (carrierubin) Welcome, Shereen! I'm a fan of Elementary, but I only gave The Following one view. Didn't think I could get used to a show where the good guy is always one step behind the bad guy. I don't think I can wait that long for justice. ;)

Bill Have any of you seen the British series, Ripper Street? We've seen three episodes now and it's really getting quite good.

Glenn Muller | 28 comments Elaborate on Ripper Street, please. We love Brit thrillers on this side of the pond (Canada).

I enjoy Elementary and The Following. However, I feel like The Following is a ripoff of Chelsea Cain's Archie and Gretchen series.

Ripper Street is set in 1880s London following the Jack the Ripper murders. It follows a group of detectives (led by Matthew Macfadyen) who try to keep a lid on the Whitechapel district amid the city's squalor and corruption.

While that may sound a lot like Copper, it's a much better production. It works hard to keep reminding you of the Robert Downey/Jude Law Sherlock Holmes films, but it has its own charms.

It appears to be airing on Space in Canada starting 19 January.
