black lamb (nympholepsy) | 6 comments i feel a little like i'm cheating for posting in this forum since my goal is only 52, hahaha! i've already read 20 and it's only february though, so i might actually bump that number up. 52 is just my minimum.

my rules are it has to be a novel - no graphic novels! - and i have to read it start to finish. skimming a little is ok as long as i'm reading most of it. i'm not sure how to describe my taste in books. i'd definitely like to read more horror this year, though. i've sort of unintentionally began reading everything francesca lia block has ever written but i'm getting reeeeeeeeeeal weary of it by now.

anyway, to start with, in january i read:
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium, #2) by Stieg Larsson The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (Millennium, #3) by Stieg Larsson Paint it Black by Janet Fitch Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James Beautiful Disaster (Beautiful, #1) by Jamie McGuire Twilight's Dawn (The Black Jewels, #9) by Anne Bishop Crank (Crank, #1) by Ellen Hopkins Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides Howl's Moving Castle (Howl's Moving Castle, #1) by Diana Wynne Jones I Was a Teenage Fairy by Francesca Lia Block The Rose and the Beast Fairy Tales Retold by Francesca Lia Block Echo by Francesca Lia Block Wasteland by Francesca Lia Block Pink Smog (Weetzie Bat, #0) by Francesca Lia Block The Frenzy by Francesca Lia Block

and in february i read:
Annabel by Kathleen Winter

i LOVED: annabel, deathless, the virgin suicides, speak, howl's moving castle
i LIKED: paint it black, i was a teenage fairy, the girl with the dragon tattoo, the rose and the beast
i HATED: 50 shades of grey, beautiful disaster, dark lover, the girl who kicked the hornet's nest, crank

the others either didn't make much impression or i was very ambivalent about...

0-1 star.
hated it.
my review. tl;dr: "i'm not like the other girls! i'm special because i'm a plain, pale, skinny, sexually pure innocent! blah blah blah boring heterosexual romance with the blandest pile of saltines ever given human form! whoops, forgot to include a plot!"

loved it!
i need to ruminate on it a bit more to get a proper review. if you've seen blade runner but not read it yet, be forewarned that the book is very different from the film.

2 stars
perplexed by it
my review. weird little young adult vampire romance novel with a heavy american history bent to it (the book spends a lot of time lecturing the reader on just that topic) and then a super bizarre plot when it actually manages to get around to it. it wasn't totally objectionable in spite of my criticism, it really just isn't my preferred genre.

working on 1Q84 now which should take me a while, it seems pretty long. and of course the Bhagavad-Gita for school.
