Amanda (amandabookworm) This book is a companion to a BBC documentary about the history of a home, so I am putting it in the TV show category. It is a very interesting look at how homes have changed over the centuries as technology and world events have affected citizens. The focus is obviously on British homes as it is based on a BBC documentary, but it also touches on other European countries and the US. It is a great nonfiction read that is not boring or textbook like. I do, however, disagree with the idea of the author that as the need to conserve resources and accommodate larger populations grows more important, we will all return to what would be our idea of a home in the middle ages complete with a hearth, no running water, and one room. I think that homes will continue change as time goes on, but I also think that our inventions and scientific advances will help shape the homes of the future, as they have always done.
