Soph ♡ Buying more books than I'm able to get through, especially since joining this site. I'm discovering new books that I'd love to read every day.

I can also spend all day reading =/

Sophie I am gaining that problem too

message 103: by Abby (new)

Abby (bdapineapple) I have lots of bad reading habits, but my main on is that I always have to see how many pages are in a chapter before I read it. And I don't know if this counts as a habit, but I always have to read upside down. I don't know why, but its the only way I can really enjoy and focus on what I am reading.

message 104: by Mildred (new)

Mildred (mildredchristi) My bad habit is that if I start reading something that is really good, I have to finish reading it no matter what time of day it is or how long the book is. Sometimes I go a whole day without moving from my reading nook, no food, no water, no bathroom breaks, no nothing.

message 105: by Nessa (new)

Nessa S (nessascalera) | 26 comments i read to the point where my parents have to yell at me to get out of my room and be social or text freinds or watch tv cuz i read a lot

message 106: by Hulamonkey (new)

Hulamonkey | 1 comments I have books I have started all over the house like pairs of reading glasses.

message 107: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurakatherine) I have to either read to the end of a chapter, or I have to read to the next 50 pages. Page 51, and boom, I can't stop until I reach page 100.

message 108: by Meag (last edited Feb 11, 2013 08:28AM) (new)

Meag (meagan01) i can't commit to one book. I'll be in the middle of one and go out and but two more and start them, i'm trying to finish the ones i have but i'm sure i'll go buy more soon enough.
Another is that i sometimes flip the pages and read a word or phrase that gives away a lot and spoils part of the book.
I hardly ever look up the words i mark, i just go on with life clueless and often the days following that word pops up everywhere.
when I have bookmark I always end up chewing on the ends as I read and i don't realize until I finish the book or come back to reality. I also use whatever is close to me as a bookmark , money, my phone, paper, pen etc... i found a lot of money in my books recently.

message 109: by Ariel (new)

Ariel whenever I am reading a book I tend to roll the top of the page down as far as it will reach so all the pages of my books are curled over

message 110: by Rianne (new)

Rianne Heartfilia (glindaaaaaa) I wonder if it's a bad reading habbit for you to finish a book even though you don't like it? Like Kimi said. I also do that sometimes but it's just because I really want to talk about that book or discuss with someone who likes it why, just to figure out, not to give my opinion.

I also do this. No matter how rubbish the book turns out to be.. I can't leave a book unfinished =/

message 112: by Teri (new)

Teri | 401 comments If something is getting too intense for me...I go online and find the spoiler! I do that with movies, too. It's a sickness...doesn't happen too often, but...well, I have to see if I can handle what's going to happen sometimes...

jay (p3rksofbeingjay) | 12 comments When I'm looking for the page I stopped at, I ALWAYS and literally always lay my eyes on a very important reveal... And I don't enjoy it when I reach it :(

my bad habit is that I start too many books at a time! I'm the exact same, I seem to always ruin the books for myself!! haha :)

message 118: by Brie ☾ (new)

Brie ☾ (midnightxreader) My bad reading habit is that I get so caught up in what I am reading I manage to tune out everyone and everything around me. Then I get someone calling my name several times and having to shout to get my attention! Especially at a good part ... but it isn't intentional!

Brittany wrote: "My bad reading habit is that I get so caught up in what I am reading I manage to tune out everyone and everything around me. Then I get someone calling my name several times and having to shout to ..."

That's one of my bad habits too! It's not on purpose but I block everything out and then somehow I'll snap out of it and while they were talking to me the whole time and I had not heard a single word. They either yell loudly or hit me to get my attention. If I read I can't stop in the middle of a page. I just can't I need to stop at a period at the bottom going to the next page or chapter.

message 120: by Darrian (new)

Darrian (darebear96) My worst reading habit is getting so into a book that I completely neglect to do my school work and end up having to do a ton of makeup work.

Another habit would be me buying books while I still have others to read and I end up pushing back my previously bought books and just have a huge backlog of to read books.

message 121: by Hayes (new)

Hayes (hayes004) | 1 comments My most recent bad habit is looking online for spoilers and spoiling the whole book for myself I hate it when I do that! I actually start to feel really anxious when I do that and have to stop reading the book for a few weeks until I feel better. Crazy!

message 122: by Diana (new)

Diana Prince (dianaprincereviews) I have several...

1.) I already have the terrible habit of picking at my lips, but when I'm reading, I don't even notice I'm doing it and I end up splitting my lips open because I've been digging my nails into them. Most people are surprised that I never notice when I do it!

2.) I never use bookmarks. I really should, but I can never find any of my nice ones or I'm too lazy to tear a napkin or some fabric to mark my pages. It sucks because I'll rely on memory to find my page and I end up reading slightly ahead whenever I skim through looking for my page.

3.) I'm terrible at returning books. I have a whole shelf of books that I've borrowed but never returned. I should really hunt down these people and give them their books back. At least none of them are library books.

message 123: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Mugerwa (corrosivemind) A bad habit? I read too fast when I am very interested in a book. I read whole sentences and sometimes paragraphs in one swoop and I hate myself for being so impatient.

message 124: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Mugerwa (corrosivemind) @Didi, RETURN THE BOOKS! It's torture to lend someone a book that they won't return! :(

You should return the books... on the other hand on the news a few weeks ago a book was returned to the library 40 YEARS later.
On the book mark I have been using a paper clip it works well enough. The lip thing... hmmmm I am at a loss.

well i got around that part by locking myself in my room and telling my mom i am reading my subject books when i read my novels :P

message 129: by Amirah I. (new)

Amirah I. (amrhidr) My bad reading habit is that whenever I come across a very good book, I will purposely read it slow. I don't want it to end. Silly isn't it -_-'

no not silly.... I tend to stay up till the book is finished...

I'm also guilty of that. I rarely get round to looking up the "hard" words that I come across while reading!

message 133: by Nora (new)

Nora (paige21) | 6 comments I have such a bad habit of when I am reading,I'm always so concerned with always stopping at the end of the chapter and very rarely stop in the middle. And I always have to have something in my hands while I read whether it is my book mark or a piece of paper, etc..

message 134: by Ryan (new)

Ryan Heward (ryanh81) | 7 comments My worst one is reading too fast. I am also bad for skipping some sentences as well.

message 135: by Angelica (new)

Angelica Thompson | 134 comments sometimes I read the last page before starting the book and it's really annoying knowing the ending while reading the book

message 136: by Joanne Farley (new)

Joanne Farley I like to read whenever I have spare time sitting at the doctors or hairdresser, I can become a little antisocial when reading I need to better select location and timing.

message 137: by Tsukino (last edited Feb 13, 2013 11:16PM) (new)

Tsukino | 2 comments I don't like long paragraphs. I uselly pass them first and find the closest conversation lines and read them first to take a hint of what is happening after that looong paragraph. And then read the paragraph :)
And I read couple of pages forward to see what happens and, frankly, after knowing what happens a few pages later, I get really excited to read the the pages that leads those events.

i hid up in my room three hours after my bed time and read Carrie and when my parents walked by my room i acted alseep and hid it under my pillow

message 140: by Kate (last edited Feb 14, 2013 07:36PM) (new)

Kate | 2 comments Hmmm, my worst habit is that I tend to read really quickly through a book the first time I read it because I want to finish it in one sitting. I feel bad that I'm not fully appreciating what's happening, but I just want to find out what happens next!

I also tend to neglect the real world (cooking, cleaning, reasonable bedtimes, errands, actual people) when I am in the middle of a book....even if it's not particularly good. I've learned from experience not to start reading until I'm up and showered and have done something. I finish reading and it turns out I've wasted an entire weekend day laying on my bed, still in my PJ's.

message 141: by Kimi (new)

Kimi (hateeverybeautifulday) Another bad reading habit of mine is often flying through books too quickly. If it is a really good book and I have no reason to stop, I won't, and will often spend a good 5 - 7 hours readig without bathroom breaks, food or drink. Most recently this happened with TFioS & A Streetcat Named Bob. The only problem is, once I'm finished, I wish I had made the book last longer!!

message 143: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurakath) I work at Queens Library so I am always around books, I happen to be reading one and then find another between shelves, falls in love, starts reading two... then has to find another cool book... ends up reading three at the time and at the end don't really read anything... sigh*

message 144: by Avery (new)

Avery (averyy) 1. Reading the ending before anything else.
2. Flipping to random pages and spoiling something.
3. Folding the corners down to use as a bookmark.
4. Judging a book by its cover.
5. Starting 2-5 books, reading halfway through each, come back to them a week or two later and finish them all on the same day.
6. Skipping boring parts in multiple POVs books then coming back to the parts later.

message 145: by Hayley (new)

Hayley i do count the pages to next chapter etc and then find out something i really shouldn't lol this gets especially bad when i read one of the game of thrones books and i look at the next few chapters to see whos next, but even though its quite a bad habit it usually works out well an makes me read faster! lol

message 146: by [deleted user] (new)

I sometimes flip to the last page to see what happens

message 147: by Word Worthy (new)

Word Worthy Books (wordworthybooks) one of my bad habits is to continue looking at the books out there that i might want to read, because then whatever book i' on becomes an obstacle to reading all the other cool things i want to read.
I'm a 1 book at a time person.
But my WORST by far.
Is not making the time to read. getting 60% through a book in a few days and then reading nothing for a month and then when i come back to it I've got to struggle to remember whats been happening as i try to finish the book before i can go on to whatever book i saw that made me return to reading.
