message 151: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alexandra-the-fairy) I have more than one habit:
1) chewing on my poor defensless bookmarks
2) reading ahead in the book when I get bored with the part I'm on
3) judging a book by its cover
and
4) ALWAYS reading the last paragraph before the first paragraph of the entire book

message 152: by Paige (new)

Paige (DarkMrs0001) | 2 comments Like many of us I do check future pages to see if someone really DID die (anything is possible in the fantasy/paranormal world! Another reason I do this is to see if and essentially WHEN the main characters finally start their obvious romance and hit the sheets together. I just can't help myself!

message 153: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachlyn) | 23 comments I always have to read the ending before I'm even halfway through a book. For some reason I can't handle not knowing how it ends.

Rachel wrote: "I always have to read the ending before I'm even halfway through a book. For some reason I can't handle not knowing how it ends."

I sometimes do that to

message 155: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachlyn) | 23 comments It's like a compulsion lol. I tell myself with every new book I'm not going to do it but inevitably I do.

message 156: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Dreisigacker | 4 comments Shame on all of you. I feel compelled to read the book in the exact order the author intended. I do have to confess, however, that if I'm bored with a book, I tend to reach the ending at an unusually fast pace.

message 157: by Kirra (new)

Kirra | 12 comments I used to fold the page I'm on, but I stopped that a few years ago, although I do leave a book lying open face down.

message 158: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (hoodoolady) Now I don't know if this is a BAD habit, but if the book I'm reading is really good,I tend to read it slower so it won't end.

message 159: by Candice (new)

Candice (wyrmie) | 11 comments I tend to read the last page when trying to figure out how many pages are left, and swing my bookmark back and forth tgus driving my kittens crazy and ruining all my bookmarks.

message 160: by April Bernadette (new)

April Bernadette I dont really look ahead in novels, but if I want to read the book, possibly watch the movie, undecided about either, I often read the plotline on Wikipedia. I hate that I do that because I never read the book afterwards.

message 161: by Alison (new)

Alison (ampoth) My worst habit is talking about books with people who really couldn't care less lol. Does that count?

message 162: by Sam (new)

Sam (sam222) Alison wrote: "My worst habit is talking about books with people who really couldn't care less lol. Does that count?"

I do that with TV shows. The sad thing is I'm incapable of stopping when I get started. I've tried but I just can't stop talking.

message 163: by Claire (new)

Claire | 27 comments I do the whole skipping around thing a lot, one time I had three different bookmarks in a book because I had left off in three spots and skipped to more exciting parts, but my worst habit is starting too many books at once. For example, at the moment I have started 4 books in less than a week and gotten nowhere in any of them... Not to mention the three other books I've started...

Lol. I'm the same way. Shouldn't get me started lol

message 165: by Taral (new)

Taral | 6 comments I have this bad habitt that even though i have plenty of books to read, i still keep on putting more books on hold at the library till i have all this collection and then i read the more recent ones than the ones whuch are nearly overdue!!!

message 166: by Shane (new)

Shane My worst habits have to be:
Seeing how long a chapter is before starting it (The Road, although I loved it, drove me INSANE because it has no chapters!), buying more books when I already have PLENTY to read at home; and unfortunately, judging by the cover... just a little bit. lol

message 167: by Brittany Leigh (new)

Brittany Leigh (tark_leigh) I always read the last page or so before even starting a book. I know that's bad, but I just can't help it.

message 168: by Sam (new)

Sam (sam222) Rida wrote: "I do the chapter thing too! OMG, I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE! I always so guilty about it too. "

Don't feel guilty about that, I do it all the time. Your not alone.

message 169: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Drudge | 8 comments I am not alone! I am guilty of those and more.

message 170: by Heather (new)

Heather (haswilliams) Taral wrote: "I have this bad habitt that even though i have plenty of books to read, i still keep on putting more books on hold at the library till i have all this collection and then i read the more recent one..."

Count me in! I do that too! There are just so many that I can't pick one or two. I also like, well, must have at least one book "on deck" to read while I am reading another so that it's there as soon as I finish the other!

message 171: by Heather (new)

Heather (haswilliams) Rachel wrote: "I've kind of stopped doing it so much (especially now that most of my books are ebooks), but I've often had a huge problem with getting so curious, that I just had to flip to the back of the page a..."

I do that. Sometimes I just flip ahead a bit to see the answer to the one nagging situation that I need to know the solution too. But, I still read the book. Strangely, those sneak peeks do not ruin it for me!

message 172: by Sher (new)

Ohh this is so much like my problem. I start a book, leave it in middle, pick it up back after long, and then forget it

message 175: by Zahrah (new)

Zahrah (zahrahwhy) | 20 comments Reading when I should be writing an essay/doing homework in general.

Or being on goodreads for the same reason. *cough*

I am so guilty of this!! I currently have over 20 books on reserve at the library, I just got done adding a bunch this morning, and I already have 10 checked out. It's just that with the new stuff, I'm not sure how long it will take for me to get them, so I over-order so I always have a good pile to pull from. I keep a notebook of things I want to read, and it's over half full but I just keep adding to it. It's a compulsion, I never have enough to read!

message 177: by Kaylee (new)

Kaylee (kaaaayleeee) Reading the last sentence of the book first.

message 178: by Becki-boop (new)

Becki-boop | 3 comments I always judge a book by its cover, I can't help myself! Another slightly hazardous habit is reading in the bath with my kindle, I’m living on the wild side :) I also buy 10 free kindle books at a time because there free but never end up reading them :)

message 179: by DENISA (new)

DENISA HOWE | 116 comments I have a habit of putting books on reserve at the library and get tired of waiting so I end up buying it from Amazon... lol

message 180: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 32 comments Eating and reading at the same time or usually spilling coffee on what I am reading :)

message 181: by [deleted user] (new)

My bad habit is buying more free Kindle books than I could realistically read in this lifetime.

message 182: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellep706) | 8 comments I rush to read a book before a movie comes out, then get abnormally angry when the movie isn't as good as the book!

I also try to force people who NEVER read to borrow my books.

message 183: by Dustin (new)

Dustin (dalittlestelf) Adding more books to my "to-read" shelf instead if reading the book I'm on

message 184: by Sher (new)

THATS MEEE 2! I download a new Free book or two each day from BookBub. Its addicting

message 186: by Frost (new)

Frost My worst habit is sometimes i read the last few pages of a book to make myself get curious and confused on what happen so i can get through that book to go on to the next one. And, on some saturdays i read a book straight and not do anything else, and i always get a major headache after words. But, hey!!! It's a small price to pay for reading so many great books. i just can't ever finish reading fast enough to read many many many other books. Ah! isn't being in love with books so Frostfull!!!(Lovely, amazing, fill that space with any word you want).

Hahahaha I do it too. They always look so bored...

message 189: by Francesca (new)

Francesca Caruso | 18 comments Once I start reading, it's so hard to stop. I've stayed up realllllly late at night just so I could finish my book! Also sometimes I read during class like during calc or something

message 190: by Buffy (new)

Buffy (buffybarber) I don't think that I've got any bad reading habits.I do stay up a bit later than I should and sometimes I'm tempted to miss my stop on the train so that I can read a bit longer, but I never do. I'm actually very fussy with books (even library books) and I'm careful not to crease spines or get smudges on them. I never lend them to anyone. (Sometimes not even my husband.) If you looked at our book shelves, you would be able to tell which books are mine and which are his. So, in fact, maybe my fussiness is a bad reading habit.

message 191: by Shpresa (new)

Shpresa Aliu Not sleeping because of a great book. Not studying as much as you should for the same reason, yeah I got it bad!

message 192: by Brian (new)

Brian Krans I was reading a book about David Foster Wallace (Although You End Up Becoming Yourself) and I was so enthralled in it that I missed my flight. It wouldn't have been a big deal, but I was already checked in through security, sitting at the next gate over, and missed numerous pages for me to get on the damn plane. So, yeah, I'd consider that a bad habit.

message 193: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mashaw1) | 6 comments Not sleeping is a big one, but at times I will find myself so distracted about a particular story I will read at my desk during lunch. I also tend to get a bit fanatical about certain authors, so I will scour the internet for out-takes, extras and any other little tid bits I can find.

message 194: by Jon (new)

Jon (jon17) | 82 comments Reading fiction :(

message 195: by Veena (new)

Veena D (veenadavis) My worst habit is always going to the bathroom (and I do mean ALWAYS) with my ebook reader.

message 196: by Albatross (new)

Albatross | 1 comments I skim and scan to get through books faster. I don't mind not finishing something if I get the general idea of things, but I dive in and read as fast as I can if something grabs me. I also keep my place with all kinds of bits of paper, like envelopes, bills, letters. Since I have lots of books going at once, I never seem to find a particular piece of paper when I need it. One of my books has a $20 bill, and I can't remember where I hid a number of gift cards. The increasing use of ebooks will help me curb these bad habits.

message 197: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (originally_elle) | 250 comments getting wrapped up in my book & riding right thru my bus stop, lol.

i once got so wrapped up, i looked up & i was in a completely different part of town i was supposed to be in & i made my self over an hour late to work :x

message 198: by Gina (new)

Gina My worst readig habit is when I am reading a book that is either so interesting I absolutely cannot wait for the end, or so bad that I want to see what happends to see if the book is worth finishing and i read the last page.
I feel ashamed every time I do.
