Diane Do you watch it?

If not, go check it out. It's an online modernized adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. The story is told via Lizzie's (Elizabeth Bennet's) video blog.

See their WEBSITE
Watch it on YOUTUBE
(look at the playlist, all the vids should be there)

If you do watch it, let's discuss! Do you like the Vlogging format. Are the characters very similar to how you imagine the book characters to be? What changes did you like about it? What things did you wish remain unchanged?

Kressel Housman I watch it, and I think this twist with Lydia is very well done. The only thing that doesn't make sense is that nobody has tipped Bing off about Jane yet. Gigi has been watching Lizzie's vlog since before they met. She must be able to see that Jane loves him.

I like it. Sometimes I feel it is a little bit forced, it´s clear that they are acting but anyway, I really enjoy it!
The characters personality are pretty the same that the book´s, but funnier and I think Jane is great.
But we´ll have to see how it ends!

Diane @Kressel: I think so too. I did not expect to like Lydia at all, but since watching her Vlog I found that she was written wonderfully.

Yeah, I've wondered that myself. I even expected Darcy to tell him after he saw Lizzie's blogs.

@Laura:
Yeah sometimes. Especially Lizzie and Darcy.
Way way funnier, which is why I like it so much. :)

Tanvee Deodhar I like it..! especially the Collins arc changed from marriage proposal to a business negotiation was genius. i think the vlogging format has some constraints but it also gives the series an interesting twist...! Also the Lydia characterization is awesome. i love her in this version, though hated her in others.

Ree oh no, why did you point me to this?! Now, I don't seem to be able to stop watching... :D

I very much like the modern take, and they've got the characters down pretty well. Though I love vlogging format, it also annoys me, because it's got so many limitations. I'm assuming it will take forever to get a glimpse of Darcy. On the other hand it's hilarious how they reenact scenes.

Maria Burns It's funny... I've been completely obsessed with the LBD for about a month, and I just saw this conversation. Oh, life. :)
There are a lot of things that I like about this series. I've always been a fan of Jane Austen and other Regency authors, and I've seen /read lots of portrayals /fan-fic. I typically despise Lydia, just because of her flighty-ness. Possibly my favorite thing about the LBD is the fact that we hear opinions and accounts of things from the characters. This really helps me to relate and appreciate them in a new light, especially Lydia. Actually, when the series first began, I didn't like her. But then her character was built up and we were shown that, yes, she makes poor decisions, but she is still a good person.
I also like the twists that make it modern, the casting choices, and the really funny things that happen!
I just want to throw in question. After Pride & Prejudice has finished, do you think they'll do another version of a Jane Austen book --- or any book, for that matter? Personally, I'm hoping for a version of JA's Emma!

Krista D. I love this series! I'm iffy about Lydia (love the actress, just not sure about the writing at times), and I'll be sad when it's over.

@Maria -- Hank and Bernie have said they are planning another book, but they aren't sure. They were tossing around Little Women a couple months ago, but Bernie did a blog post that said "one doesn't just pick a book." But I'm really looking forward to another book!

Maria Burns @Krista Oooooooooh! Thanks for telling me that! I was really afraid that I was going to have nothing to look forward to when LBD is over. :)

Francesca I love it! And that's strange if you consider that I didn't like the novel nor am I a Jane Austen enthusiast.

The LBD is so fun and fresh that it's not possible to dislike it, in my opinion.
The acting is absolutely top-notch, and I'm crazy for Lizzie and Lydia - but not for Jane, she's a bit dull.

There's been a few books tossed around from what I've seen/heard, so who knows? But it could be really interesting :)

I could argue that actor!Jane is dull because, well, book!Jane is dull :p

Tanvee Deodhar I loved how she potrays Jane!Darcy on numerous occasions as well as Jane!Lydia once :)

liquid soap I really hate the Pemberley Diaries spin off. so forced.
LBD are awesome, though.

was hoping they'd be doing Northanger Abbey. I think Catherine would translate well into a modern vlogging format.

Kressel Housman Jane made me cry when Bing disappeared from her life.

Krista D. Tanvee wrote: "I loved how she potrays Jane!Darcy on numerous occasions as well as Jane!Lydia once :)"

Jane!Darcy is perhaps the funniest thing about the entire series. Though Charlotte!Caroline was a close second.

Tanvee Deodhar @Krista: yeah, and the two combined was epic hilarity.
'Are you fake texting!? '
'Its super important.'

Kuni It's so amazing! Anyone who has read Pride and Prejudice or is a fan of Austen will love it. I love all the social media too that makes it feel like they are real people.

I need a T-Shirt that says this.

Sandra I don't really like Gee Gee. It's like she is totally different from the Georgina in the book lol
But the vlogs are epic and the characers are all really good! Though in comparison to the book, I found the switch in characters between Lizzie and Darcy a bit too forced, after Lizzie has read the letter - but that's my humble opinion on the matter haha

I love what they have done with the Kitty/Wickham issue in modern day adaptation! I wonder how this will gets resolved because Lizzie is right when she says: What's on the internet stays on the internet...

Krista D. I don't think a super shy Georgiana would work in the vlog world, though ;)

I agree. No company would be putting up those videos. Not very professional.

I'm so curious about next episode. They'll have to solve the whole Lydia/Wickham thing by this thursday, right? because otherwise that sex tape will be released... and Mary Kate Wiles might be against it :D I'm also wondering how they will proceed with the Wickham story. I mean, he's not gonna end up with Lydia, is he? But then the series really starts to differ from the book...

Krista D. The Domino videos today show the "point" of them, so that's good at least.

Now, to just end this melodramatic sob fest that's been going on lately! Let's get back to the WPF 2.5 club chatter! ;)

Julie I watched LBD before reading Pride and Prejudice (holds up shield) and it really helped me understand the plot and characters.

Rebecca I think it's a really good adaptation because it's just as awful as the actual book. :)

Nelly I love the series! However, I find the Lizzie in the series less likable than book Lizzie. There are however, many minor characters in the books who I think are fantastic in the series, such as Fitz and Caroline, who I both found to be really fun to watch! There are also other characters who I found to be improved, such as Charlotte and Jane, who is probably my favourite Bennet sister in the vlog series! I think the actor who plays her (Laura Spencer) is really good! Of course, my favourite character is Darcy, even if he has not been in very many episodes.

Kressel Housman I agree with you about Lizzie. We ought to be mourning with her about Darcy at this point, but the emotions just aren't there. Lydia (Mary Kate Wiles) is my favorite portrayal. She's spectacular!
