If you liked the book, you might also like to watch the movie (1935 version) of 'Mutiny on the Bounty' with Charles Laughton and Clark Gable! I borrowed it from my local library recently . .

An excerpt:

" Day 68

I say, I'm right ruddy tired of the way this ship pitches about aimlesslessly. Confound it, if there were only a way to raise the bloody sail, that it might catch the confounded breeze and propel this hulk. Unfortunately, the means to do so won't be invented for another two years. Dash it!"

message 17: by Janet (new)

Janet (justjanet) | 791 comments This one was fun Love with a Chance of Drowning by Torre DeRoche Love with a Chance of Drowning. Also if I remember correctly, most of Voyager Voyager (Outlander, #3) by Diana Gabaldon takes place on a ship. It's the third in a series (and my favorite) but I have heard of people reading it as a standalone.

message 18: by Sonya (new)

Sonya Pickens (skpickens) | 3 comments I used Neal Stephenson's new book SEVENEVES - it's set on a spaceship :)

message 20: by Cammy Tidwell (new)

Cammy Tidwell | 1 comments I just finished "In the Kingdom of Ice.."In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette It was amazing - a little hard to get started but hang in there. The ending and what happened to the survivors is worth the read.

message 21: by Diane (new)

Diane (meshuggeknitter) | 1 comments I just finished The Gracekeepers. It takes place in the future when the sea level has risen and most land is under water. A large portion of the population lives on boats and are considered to be a lower class than those who live on land. I listened to it on audio and it was fabulous.

This is a list I compiled with the help of the subscribers of the Fiction_L mailing list when I worked in a library. I used this list to create a sea adventure display. I love this theme:

Enjoy!

Heart of the Sea
In the Heart of the Sea The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by Nathaniel Philbrick
And another one I like is Ship of Fools:
