I am reading Island Of The Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. Never read it as a kid (and never had kids).

I remember reading this book; it was one that stayed with me, even though I read it decades ago. I think you will enjoy it. I know that I still remember details of the story even though I read it so long ago.

I loved that book. I read it every year from when I was 10 to when I was 15.

'The Island of the Blue Dolphins'

The One and Only Ivan was a surprisingly good read! It's quick and enjoyable.
