We were able to see Tommy Deaton's murder through the eyes of his partner, Toby, and Toby's slow demise through his own eyes. How well did these scenes set the tone for the rest of the story?

Tracey (trakka) | 407 comments I thought how horrible for Toby. Unfortunately he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I think for me it emphasizes the fact that justice should have been sought for Toby.

Same for me, Tracey. Being in his head gave me some perspective about him. Even though he didn't rat out his partner for domestic abuse, he seemed to be there for Tommy's wife Mary. Maybe he didn't do the right thing but he was definitely a victim.

These scenes were powerful, putting us in the mind of the victim as he's about to die and is powerless to attract help. It was pretty unsettling and prepared me well for some of the controversial themes that came later.

Melissa (melissasd) | 194 comments I agree, Jonetta. That scene was a bit unsettling.
