Alissa (alissamerritt) | 141 comments I joined Goodreads years ago and through Goodreads, I've become friends with and conversed with authors I respect very much on Facebook. I currently have 4 books in queue given to me by authors for fair reviews, which they will get. This is new and exciting. I feel like this is the first time in history that a reader is given so much respect by authors. I feel like my opinions matter. Thoughts?

Bill (shiftyj1) | 4891 comments You are right, Alissa. There are many great authors here that take the time to interact with the members and are truly interested in their fans. I think sometimes the focus gets on “badly behaving authors”, but for the most part here at HA, everyone I have interacted with (including members) has been really nice and willing to participate in the community. It is very, very cool!

Char | 17459 comments Yes, you are correct, Alissa! We have several authors here in HA that regularly participate in conversations with readers. We sometimes have author participation group reads where the author is available to answer our questions as we're reading their books.
Also, keep an eye on the sale threads. We have several authors that pop in there to post when their books are on sale or even free.

Ken B | 6810 comments There are minuses hidden among all of the pluses.

While I enjoy interacting with the majority of the authors I have conversed with, occasionally one will piss me off with a political rant.

I fully respect an individual's right to express his/her opinion. That doesn't mean that I have to like or agree with their opinion. And, if taken too far, it can taint my view toward the author in general and possibly to the idea of reading anything else by that author.

Same with musicians...and artists, chefs, tailors, millers, prostitutes, hot dog sellers......
