5.2 Bishamonten I read Demon Seed by Dean Koontz, with “Crime” as a GR genre (embedded).

15.7 Birth of a Nation
I read Finding Chandra: A True Washington Murder Mystery by Scott Higham, set in Washington, DC, USA.

25.4 Beth Robinson’s Science and Writing
Book 1. Protagonist is a scientist. I read Who? by Algis Budrys. The protagonist is “a very important scientist” working on something called “K-88.” It’s a 1950’s story which doesn’t define the scientist with clarity, but K-88 is some sort of robotic weapon, so he would be an engineer/inventor.

Book 2. “Writing” is a GR genre. I read Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott.

Mhairi | 348 comments 30.2 - Jonquil’s task: Takin’ It to the Streets

I chose two books from option 1, although they both fit option 2 as well!

1. Midsummer Nights by Jeanette Winterson This is a book of short stories inspired by operas. For me, opera is a magical world in itself, and an evening at the theatre being completely transported is incomparable! Several stories in this collection featured characters attending operas at the theatre or a festival.

2. Calendar Of Love by George Mackay Brown All of these short stories are set on the islands of Orkney, a place I consider to be magical. It's drenched in old Norse and Scottish legend, and during the summer never gets dark, while in the winter the Northern Lights can be seen. Beautiful!
