My enablers were my parents. Both my mother and father read to me and neither of them ever said “no” when I asked them to buy me another book. I love how Atticus reads the newspaper with Scout and strikes a bargain that she’ll keep going to school (where the teacher has criticized her for “learning to read all wrong”), and they will keep reading at home as they’ve always done. Reading the paper with my parents was a regular routine each evening in our house.
