Sue Phillips (texana) I've read it within the last five years. The main character was employed by a kind of Witness Protection Program and the plot revolved around his protection of a family with two teenage children. I thought maybe David Baldacci was the author, but I have not been able to find it among his books.

Can anyone identify this for me?

Skye | 2105 comments I think I read this novel, but I can't recall who or what; maybe Nancy will come up with an answer.

Bob Meyer | 14 comments Not sure if this is the one you mean, as I also have a vague recollection of a different book involving a Madoff like figure's family being on the run, but Deaver's is similar. Only one teenager however. http://www.amazon.com/Edge-Jeffery-De...

Skye | 2105 comments Could it possibly be a Lisa Gardner novel?

Erin | 65 comments Sounds like Edge by Jeffery Deaver.

Sue -- somehow I missed this post. It sounds a lot like Badfellas by Tonino Benacquista. How I missed this thread in the first place is beyond my comprehension.

Wait - you said "employed" by a witness protection program. I'll see what I can find.

Skye | 2105 comments I read something that sounds like this, but I could swear it was Lisa Gardner or Mary Higgins-Clark.

everyone:

I got a request from someone who is looking for a particular book and I'm hoping someone will know the answer. Here's what she writes (below) -- if you can help me out here, I'd be forever grateful.

"there was a detective, seemed like he'd been around the block (maybe part of a series? or ex-military maybe?). He was at a crime scene at an apartment where a woman had been killed in bed after sex or something like that. He noticed that there really wasn't any evidence because the apartment was kind of sterile and he thought to himself that the killer was smart. The "twist" was that everyone assumed that since it was a beautiful woman that had been killed that the killer was a man, but something, and I can't remember what exactly, led the detective to believe the killer was another woman."

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9982 comments I've been thinking about a book I read about a group of young men and women who had a hobby of climbing across the city on rooftops. I think they might also have entered apartments thru windows and stolen stuff sometimes. I think some more serious crimes occurred as well, but can't quite recall.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Is it Creepers by David Morrell? It's the first thing that popped into my head.

IShita | 186 comments Did this group contain both men and women? A Clockwork Orange is the first that comes to my mind given your clues but it only contain a group of young men (high school boys more like). Some pretty gory stuff happened in that book!

Skye | 2105 comments I am clueless, but David Morrell is my new, upcoming venture.

I did some more research and discovered that the book I was thinking of was Grasshopper Grasshopper by Barbara Vine by Barbara Vine

I read it a long time ago and for some reason it made a big impression on me.

Thanks for your suggestions Ishita and Nancy!
