I'd like to hear the thoughts about this one. I refused rating it and the I DNF watching the movie. I'd love to dicuss this book so much.

Not a problem at all! It took me a whole day off to finish Finders Keepers. It's actually a miracle someone as busy as you are finished the book in only four days!

I will say it would have held up well on its own, without the trio from MM.
Do you guys have an approximate date to start this? Unless you have already? The topic says June 2 but I don't think anyone has begun it, or have you?

Were you wanting to join, is that why you ask?
Nope, just thinking of posting it on my blog if that's ok with you guys, see if anyone out there wants to join in. I was just wondering if it was ongoing or not since no one has actually posted about the book xD

Hanna has made a few posts on her update feed about it, but not here since I haven't actually begun.
Yeup, I'm waiting until Kandice starts!

TPOBAW wasn't at all my cup of tea. I guess It's Kind of a Funny Story is much much better, and it doesn't shove all the teenage problems down your throat.
The thing about this book is that it started out well and the first half is incredible once you think about it. I'm just sad about how downhill it went from there.

I'm only about 1/4 into this one, but it's very good so far. My one complaint, and it's a small one is how often he uses the word like. You'd think he was a Valley Girl!
Oh my God don't remind me! I loathe this word! Like, really, like. It's like, so infuriating! The first half is much better, I hope you enjoy the second, though. I failed to.

It's a tad silly in this context, but at the same time I know teenagers that really speak that way so it's probably me being snobbish. Ta! I don't care. It, like, drives me crazy!
The only teenagers I know who, like, talk like that are on MTV, but that's because we don't even speak English here, lol. You know, that's an actual issue I had with Gillian Flynn's Dark Places. Even though the protagonist wasn't a teen she like, said the word like, a lot. 845 times to be accurate.
What I liked most about the first half, before going to the hospital was the honest, accurate portrayal of a teenager under stress. I know I've never actually related to him but I know more than a multiple friends who are exactly the same. That's why I refuse rating it, actually.

Well I guess I am snobbish too then, because I cannot stand it. Teens are the same here in Portugal; instead of 'like', they say 'tipo'. They stick it pretty much anywhere in a sentence and it appears they are unable to express themselves without it. I suppose they use it for emphasis, I don't know. But it is quite annoying.
I need to read TPOBAW one of these days. I keep wanting to read a book that stirs my feelings, but somehow I always keep delaying it. I considered getting a book about someone who has been abused. I wonder what went/goes through such a person's mind. At the same time, I am not quite sure if I could handle it.

Hahaha, I'd rather be snobbish than talk like this. And I know how you feel, Ana. The language teenagers use here is also so annoying. It's a shame I'm actually a teenager, also still at the beginning. My friends actually call me 'The Mother' because I 'tell them how to 'behave'
The Perks of Being a Wallflower also handles with this issue. Or it supposedly does. Chbosky just crammed up many topics and none of them were well executed.

I am really enjoying this book, I ma just frustrated that I can only read in small drabs. I want to lose myself in it!
Thanks for the recommendations. Not sure if it's the case but I have really had it with teenage angst sort of themes. It seems to be all over the genres I enjoy reading.... What I am really interested is psychological deviances, or whatever the correct term is. There are some twisted minds out there, and I would sort of like to know how they view the world. I don't think I expressed myself too well in my previous post, because I focused more on the victim side and that's not all I am curious about.

I think his family being so supportive and kind was a bit unrealistic, but I also felt that was ok because the story wasn't about them.
I ended up really enjoying and can't wait to find the movie!
My main issue with the book is the writing style and the boredom I felt while reading it.
The characters in 6 North all felt flat and one dimensional for me, I don't like it when the secondary characters are like this. And the insta-love really annoyed me, I understood where they came from, though. But Noelle really annoyed me, and she also felt so one-dimensional.
I actually liked the idea of the supporting family, it showed that it doesn't always have to be on the parents. As in, they might not always be an issue. They can be supportive and yet it won't change the fact that you'd feel like this.

The movie is SO HORRIBLE! I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. They changed a lot from the book.

I did find it refreshing that the family didn't suck and that the teen didn't blame his parents for his issues which is so often the case, but they were almost too prefectly perfect for me.
