Hello Spain and Croatia - it is 7:17AM (June 6th) in Spain and there is less than an hour before kickoff.

Hello UK and Portugal - it is 6:18AM in Portugal and the UK - get ready - in a little over two hours you will be kicking off.

Hello USA - East Coast - you will be kicking off in about 7.5 hours.

Everybody who is reading at any point between the hours of 8AM and Noontime on June 6th in your part of the world must check in and post progress on the first Check In - which is Checkpoint One and is mandatory if you have read and want credit for that reading in the readathon.

Here is the link to Checkpoint One for Readathon Three on June 6th: first benchmark:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...--

It is only 11:21PM on June 5th in Alberta so Michael you have some time left until 8AM on June 6th.

ROADMAP

This is the first checkpoint and where everybody begins who is trying to check in - this is the first check in and checkpoint for those reading from 8AM until Noon on June 6th, 2015.

FIRST CHECK IN - CHECKPOINT ONE: - EVERYONE SHOULD GO HERE FIRST! - THIS IS FOR THOSE READING FROM 8AM UNTIL NOON ON JUNE 6TH.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...--

There are six CHECK IN CHECKPOINTS. You should start with Checkpoint One - Check in One first - link is above and you check in terms of time and in sequential order if you are reading during these specific timeframes.

After checking in on Check In One - you would then go to Check In Two - link below - THIS IS FOR THOSE READING FROM NOON TO 4PM ON JUNE 6TH

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...--

Next would be Check In Three - link below - THIS IS FOR THOSE READING FROM 4PM TO 8PM ON JUNE 6TH

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Next would be Check In Four - link below - THIS IS FOR THOSE READING FROM 8PM UNTIL MIDNIGHT ON JUNE 6TH

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Next would be Check in Five - link below - THIS IS FOR THOSE READING FROM MIDNIGHT TO 4AM ON JUNE 6TH

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Next would be Check in Six (THE LAST CHECK IN) - link below - THIS IS FOR THOSE READING FROM 4AM (JUNE 6TH) TO 8AM ON JUNE 7TH

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Things to remember about Check Ins - there are six of them - Six Check In Checkpoints - in order to get credit for the readathon you have to post the required template for check ins in at least one of the six check ins and read for a minimum of one hour during that check in. You must use and fill in the required Check In template. If you want to get credit for each check point that you are reading you must post the required template in each of the six Check In Check points and fill in the required template for each four hour time slot that you are reading. We will tally participation not only for the readathon but for each check point for Check In as well as the one mandatory totals Check Out thread.

This is the required template to use and a sample for all of the first six CHECK IN THREADS. - THIS IS THE CHECK IN TEMPLATE SAMPLE WHICH YOU MUST USE FOR ALL OF THE CHECK POINTS ABOVE - ONE TO SIX - CHECK INS

Make sure to answer the following:

Name of Book and Author or books and authors:

Genre or genres:

Number of Pages Read - Start Page and Finish Page for this four hour period.

Don't forget the proper citation - just do the best you can and we will assist you.

How much time did you read during this block of time:

Did you complete any books during this time frame and what were they?

Also, your location in the world and timezone

Here is a sample Check In Template completed by Simon - this is the Simon Check In Template and you use this template for all of the six Check Ins - you will find it very easy indeed:

Sample Check In Template for all Six Check In Checkpoints - 1 through 6

The Nixon Defense What He Knew and When He Knew It by John W. Dean

The Nixon Defense What He Knew and When He Knew It by John W. Dean by John W. Dean John W. Dean

Genre: Political History
Time frame: 14:00-14:45
Pages read: page 75 to page 105
Location: UK, GMT

No books completed yet.

Finally you must do CHECK OUT. There is only one Check Out thread and that is CHECKPOINT SEVEN - FINAL TALLIES - here is the link to CHECK OUT WHICH IS MANDATORY
LINK TO CHECK OUT - CHECKPOINT SEVEN ON JUNE 6TH

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...--
I HAVE INCLUDED AT THE BOTTOM A VERY SUCCINCT WAY OF DOING CHECK OUT AND TALLIES USING THE SIMON CHECKOUT TEMPLATE:

a) Please list the books completed if any and genres and how many pages in the book that you read during the readathon. Only pages read during the readathon itself count towards the readathon page total but the book when completed (if during the readathon) can count towards books completed. This is the tally thread for all of the checkpoint segments. Tally and list books and authors where you have read any pages.

b) Let us know the books you read or are reading - start and finish pages and genre.
You can read 10 books if you like - if you want to read them each a little bit at a time that is also allowed but you must let us know your start and end pages and all of the book details. Also tally them up here on the checkout thread.

c) How much time did you read total during the 24 hour readathon? This is the tally thread for all of your checkpoints in the readathon.

d) List all of the books completed over the total readathon - citations please - title and author.

e) Tally all of your pages read and how much total time did you read and how many pages

f) Let us know your timezone and location.

So here is an example:

a) Completed one book: The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott - Genre - Historical Fiction - read all 482 pages for readathon. Total time spend reading during the readathon was 7 hours or all 24 hours or 1 hour.

The Jewel in the Crown (The Raj Quartet, #1) by Paul Scott by Paul Scott Paul Scott

Genre was historical fiction.

Metro NYC - Eastern Standard Time

or

b) Completed one book: The Jewel in the Crown by Paul Scott - Genre - Historical Fiction - read all 482 pages for readathon.

The Jewel in the Crown (The Raj Quartet, #1) by Paul Scott by Paul Scott Paul Scott

Metro NYC - Eastern Standard Time

and started the next book

b) The Day of the Scorpion - Genre - Historical Fiction - read from 1 - page 200 - have not completed book yet.

Paul Scott by Paul Scott The Day of the Scorpion (The Raj Quartet, #2) by Paul Scott

or

b) The Day of the Scorpion - Genre - Historical Fiction - read from 1 - page 200 - have not completed book yet.

Paul Scott by Paul Scott The Day of the Scorpion (The Raj Quartet, #2) by Paul Scott

Note: In all of these instances - there are totals and stats being counted.

First we will make a list of books completed during the readathon even if the book had already been started before the readathon - if you finished the book finally during the readathon they count to that total, then second, we count the total number of pages read during the readathon, and then we count and list all of the different books started during the readathon, and finally the different genres read during the readathon and what these genres were with a count. And then your location and timezone.

We will also list all of the proud participants in the first History Book Club Readathon.

Congrats.

FOLKS FROM THE PREVIOUS READATHON WE HAVE COME UP WITH THE SIMON TEMPLATE CREATED BY ONE OF OUR ADMINS - IT MAKES THINGS EASIER - JUST DO IT LIKE HE DID - HERE IS THE SAMPLE:

Here is what Simon did for his checkout and I think this is a pretty compact way of doing your tallies if you have not already done them. This is the MANDATORY CHECK OUT THREAD.

I replicated his post here:

The Nixon Defense What He Knew and When He Knew It by John W. Dean by John W. Dean John W. Dean

Final Tally - 105 pages (all books)
Total Time Reading 2.45 hours
Genres: Non fiction and Politics - 1
Total Checkpoints Utilised - 2 Checkpoints and One Checkout
Total Number of Books Competed - 0
Total Number of Books in Progress - 1
Location: UK, GMT

FINALLY - YOU HAVE UNTIL NOON OF JUNE 7TH TO GET ALL OF YOUR TALLIES AND CHECK OUT TEMPLATE COMPLETED - IF YOU NEED MORE TIME OR ANY ASSISTANCE - WE ARE HERE TO HELP AND OF COURSE WILL GIVE YOU THE TIME YOU NEED.

Folks everytime we do this we always find folks who want to participate but fail to join and set up their shelves properly so that they can get full credit:

You must join!

Very important:

How To Join In: - Go here first - https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/...
Click on the title at the top - The HBC Readathons. Please then join by simply signing in at the bottom and say how many books you plan to read for one or more of the readathon dates - there will be six readathon dates throughout the year; then create your own personal shelf to add the books which you would like to tackle during one readathon or more readathons. That is all there is to it and goodreads will keep track. Become your own marathoner in reading books on the readathon dates and we will keep track of your progress in terms of titles of books, number of books, number of pages, and different genres. Give it a whirl and see how much reading you can get done and take a stab at that big "to be read" pile of books that we all have.

Note: Don't forget to set up your shelf first and then add the name of that shelf here when setting up the challenge for your readathon.

And here are some links to the Readathon folder which will be updated:
