This is one of those few movies where its a catch 22 situation to include a film in the time travel category that is not billed as a time travel movie but turns out to contain a surprisingly delightful dose of genuine time travel goodness. The good news is that, by revealing that this film has time travel, I am not actually spoiling any plot turns in doing so. A similar example would be one of the Harry Potter movies which also surprisingly contained time travel without being billed as such but is not a spoiler in mentioning it. Unlike some scifi tv series episodes I have seen, where time travel turns out to be the twist...those I wont mention!
This is a bona fide frightfest supernatural movie and although it may score 35% on the Rottentomatoes and IMDB critic consensus, I generally spit on those critic ratings. For me, this was one helluva ride with an awesome narrative that cleverly intertwines the events of the first movie (which was an enjoyable back to basics, Poltergeist style movie).
If you don't like being spooked then stay the heck away from this series because there are numerous jump out of seat frights.
Admittedly, the scares are hit and miss and some scenes might be looked upon as ridiculous depending on how you approach the movies. But if you go with the flow and overlook some strange "rules" of the supernatural world, you should enjoy the hell out of this series as much as I am so far with the unexpected time travel element adding extra delight for us TT fans.
Another thing I love about this series is the old school practical effects. Absolutely no CGI, which is pretty cool for those of us who are 80s junkies.
I saw the first one on its cinema release but I have only now caught up with the second movie on our UK Amazon prime in order to catch the third film on its current cinema release.

I give this a personal 8/10 rating
