PepperP0t Ladies I plan to start this tomorrow. have any/all of you begun already? or finished

message 7: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t this is a quick read for me. I'm almost done. What do you think of Jade?

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments Hiya, I started reading then had to do some errands so I'm not too far in at the moment. I'm going to really get going on the book today! I felt the beginning opened well (with Gabriel and Death at the Oracle) and was intriguing. I'll let you know about Jade as I read on :-)

message 9: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t I'm done and posted a review. I really liked it overall.

message 10: by ✿ Natalie ✿ (new)

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments Sorry I'm a little late to the discussion. I had a couple of days of ill health so was unable to read for a few days there! But, I'm getting into the book now. In fact, I felt I haven't really felt I had to try much to get into it as so much has been happening from the off!
I like the twist with Katie when she is introduced, with all not being as it first appears.
I instantly had a clear 'feel' and image of both Katie and Rhyn in my mind too. Did you feel the same?

message 11: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t glad you're better and sorry you were out of it a few days. I liked it quite a bit and was laughing at how insane her day was going. I have 2 books in front of book 2 but plan to start it soon.

message 12: by ✿ Natalie ✿ (new)

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments Thank-you :-) And I know, I was laughing at that too. Also the part where Gabriel's getting rid of all her meds and then nicks the liquor bottle from her hand.
Good to know you're going onto book 2. That may coincide with when I finish this one then.

message 13: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t I just finished book three. have you started the second one yet? I won't say anything even with spoilers until you at least start.

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments I've just finished book 1! I enjoyed it. I actually thought it was very funny. I liked the chemistry between Rhyn and Katie. I liked her attitude and gumption.

You asked about my views on Jade - I liked him at first. A strong, steady, quiet presence. I understand why he did what he did with Sasha. He was caught at a bad moment when he was hurt. However, following through with what he did to Katie was not nice. She was human and the Immortals had already messed with her life - and health - to a huge degree. The situation he found himself in was Kris' choice yet he took it out on one unknowing.
I was also thinking today how it was mentioned Jade had been with Sasha for a long time in the past. Sasha is cruel and mad and yet Jade was once loyal to him. He obviously had a big chance of heart somewhere along the road but not enough to stop him handing over a damaged young woman to such a man. I still hope he might come out on top in the end.
What was your view on him and his choice?

What were your thoughts on Kris towards the end? I thought the scene with him and Katie (view spoiler) was well written. And I think interesting that Rhyn, after all she'd been through, felt this was what had made her scared. He could see a change.

I thought the book overall was a good story but a bit rough around the edges in its style. I understood what you meant in your review about some pieces seeming to be missing.

There where also a number scenes I reread. One of them was when she and Rhyn are having a talk when she is at the Sanctuary and is asking him why he chose her.

message 15: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t I never warmed to Kris. He kept saying one thing and doing another because for him everything was black and while and there was no gray, otherwise known as human frailty and emotions. I agree on that scene but as I said I thought Kris was narrow minded and rigid.

Yes Jade was with Kris and Sasha and they're brothers so how is this not an issue even without Katie. I liked Andre but he was there such a short time I wanted to know him better. Also with Jade once he did that to Katie, I was over him.

When I read book 2 I had to immediately go to book three because it's such a middle book. I always liked Rhyn, Gabe and believe it or not Jalen made me smile. Can we all just get over Hannah (including Hannah!)

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments I agree with you on Kris. He thinks he's a great protector of humanity & some others say that he is also, but I felt this 'duty' vied with his personal want for power and revenge. His actions were too often out of sync with what he believed himself to be. I'm glad Katie called him out on that several times! And Gabriel did say at the beginning about Kris' lack of empathy.

Going forward into book 2 I'm looking forward to how Rhyn and Katie are going to get to know each other more, especially with the conversation they had at the end of Katie's Hellion!

Your comments on Hannah made me smile lol.

message 17: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t let me know what you thought of two and three and posted on both yesterday.

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments I'm nearing halfway through book 2. Ooh what's Sasha up to?! I don't trust him but some of his actions are interesting.
And Toby, I'm glad he's growing on Katie because I really like his little character! Sometimes when kids are in books it can get a bit tedious due to the way they are written, but I have not felt that from Toby. The storyline adds another interesting element.

I agree, on both counts and I can't tell what Sasha is doing it'll definitely ruin it for you. How are you feeling about Jade these days!

message 20: by ✿ Natalie ✿ (new)

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments Huh, Jade who? ;-) I definately don't feel any warm feelings for him! I think he was hurt at first but now, bitterness, jealousy and resentment. I just realised at the beginning (book 1) we had a description of Jade through Kris' eyes. I'd forgotten that. It was 'Kris' telling us he was good and loyal, but then Kris can be questionable himself...

message 21: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t you can't forget him just yet.

I see what you mean! Hehe.

I'm nearly finished book 2. Rhyn makes me laugh, loved how he knocked some sense into his brothers over the council.
And oh Hannah.. I saw from her conversation with Kris, about her parents and her bringing up Katie from a young age, how Hannah has ended up as she is now. Wanting to be looked after with a gilded, easy life. Her lack of support for Katie though is grating and I especially felt for Katie when she realised that she couldn't count on Hannah.

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments Do you think you will read the Rhyn Eternal books at some point?

I definitely think Gabriel is a character I'd like to follow more about, so I will be reading Rhyn Eternal book 1 in the future.

message 24: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t I think I will read them, but I need to finish some of the series and commitments I have right now may late August or September.

Jade was such a character an you're not done with Hannah or Kris yet, they're definitely in book three which I've been dying to talk about!

message 25: by ✿ Natalie ✿ (new)

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments Ok! That's great. And I'm the same as will have some other books to read before then. We can just keep adding updates to this thread as we read them :-)

Ahh you're having good patience with me in waiting to discuss the books as I slowly make my way through this series!! ;-)

message 26: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t I'm a fast reader and some of my book friends aren't and others don't read. so....

message 27: by ✿ Natalie ✿ (new)

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments I've finished book 2 & into book 3 now. Really enjoying so far. Loving Toby's point of view which I'm just reading at the moment.

message 28: by ✿ Natalie ✿ (new)

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments What do you think of Darkyn? I can't help but enjoy his role in the story. He's more of a true villian than was Jade. I felt Jade's emotions were quite immature for a centuries old immortal.

message 29: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t I agree on both counts. Jade read as young and immature even rom his introduction. Remember he was always easily manipulated.

message 30: by ✿ Natalie ✿ (new)

✿ Natalie ✿ | 428 comments Hiya, I had a break from the 3rd book for a bit. I am going to start at the beginning again of book 3 after I finish my current book. I'm one of those readers who struggles to read many books of a series back to back!

Have you taken up reading any of the rest of the books set in Rhyn and Katie's world?
