Jay Amberg | 9 comments I just downloaded Foucault's Pendulum. Is there anything I should know before I start reading the book?

All I can tell you is that it can verge into the philosophical here and there; otherwise, it's pretty straightforward. I've pulled my copy from the shelf & I'm getting ready to dive in.

Geza Tatrallyay | 43 comments I rather enjoyed it. i read it quite a while ago. Have fun!

Maria Riegger | 13 comments I LOVED this book. Read it several years ago, and then reread a couple of years ago, Enjoy!!

message 5: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments It's that good?

I think it is, but it's also very challenging. The main story, though, is amazing.

message 7: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments Nancy; that's why I didn't run a search for B and N's marketplace; I suspect it is a novel that requires time and concentration.

Absolutely.

message 9: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Koz (sarahkoz) I haven’t read this in awhile, but I remember feeling spun in circles. I’m interested to hear what you get out of it, Jay.

message 10: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments I did check this out in depth and it DOES look good.

message 11: by Maria (new)

Maria Riegger | 13 comments Yes, it does require concentration. If you're a Templar nerd like I am, and you like esoterica, it helps :) But even if you're not, if you can get past the esoteric references, numerology, etc., the story is amazing.

message 12: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisaspoot) Make sure you have a quiet space and can dedicate your mind to reading it. Not a book you can skim over and grasp. Needs concentration and a lot of thought.

I'm boarding a plane shortly, but later I'll try to add a sort of strategy for helping people get through this novel. Nicolas is out of internet range for a while, and I'm rereading this book in case anyone needs help or wants to discuss anything specific. For now, if theory, postmodernity or philosophy aren't in your interests, latch on to the story about The Plan. More soon!

Maria: it sounds extremely interesting and very unlike most of the novels I read.

Skye, it is most definitely unlike most of the other novels out there. Ooooo, you guys are making me want to pick it up for a third time!

Please let me know what you think of it!

message 17: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments Maria, it's funny, but the title is familiar, and yet, I have never thought of read it.

message 18: by Bill (new)

Bill Don't forget the group read thread already set up for this book, folks.. :)

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) | 1296 comments Library finally queued me up for it being available to check out! : )

message 20: by Sophia (new)

Sophia Martin | 27 comments I'll be the odd one out and say that I literally (and I do mean that literally) used this book to cure jet lag. It was that boring to me.

I did like The Name of the Rose, though.

It's okay, Sophia. It's one of those books I catalog under NFE -- "Not for everyone." I was sort of blown away when Nicolas nominated it.
