Robert Mingee (robertmingee) | 776 comments I know you specifically requested horror, but I'm going to suggest this anyway, because it is just such an awesome book, and the narrator is outstanding: The Martian

In the horror vein, I would try Dean Koontz's Christopher Snow books: Fear Nothing, Volume 1 and Seize the Night. The narrator there is outstanding as well. Though in truth those could also be classified as somewhere between horror and sci fi.

Good luck! There's a lot more horro in audio form now than there was even 5 years ago!

Oh yes! The Martian was great! 14 by Peter Clines was also very good as well as Hell House by Richard Matheson that was a great & intense listen.

I can vouch for The Martian and 14. Both outstanding audio books.

Jenn (ace-geek) If you're not used to audiobooks I'd recommend short stories. It doesn't require you to focus as long and you can get used to listening instead of reading. Or maybe a book you've already read so if your attention drifts a little you won't lose your place. I started with H.P Lovecraft because I like his stories and I've already read them.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 1561 comments I often go with the Big Names when I do audio books because you are more likely to get a quality narrator. Some of the Indie books I've added audio to are pretty bad. Not all, but some.

It's been a couple years since I've "read" a Stephen King book and I'm cool with that because his narrators are always top quality. Same with John Sandford. His audios are so good I doubt I'll ever read him again.

It's a great way to squeeze a few more books into your reading challenge every year and sometimes the audio makes it better. George Martin is a great example. His narrator somehow manages the voices of God knows how many characters and he really has a knack for bringing the story to life. If I bother with his next release for ASoIaF, it will probably be the audio.

Audio isn't for everyone though. Some people hate it. To each his own.
