The results are in!

There ended up being 123 responses to the survey.

The top 5 choices are:

1. A book that you've seen the movie of but haven't read
2. Reader's Choice (freebie)
3. A book about mental illness (i.e. substance abuse, alzheimer's, autism, bipolar, etc.)
4. A book that's title begins with the first letter of your name
5. A book with a great opening line

I know... there's 5 choices and the plan was to only include 4. The categories for 4th and 5th choice ended up being separated by 1 vote and a tenth of a point in the ranking. They were also very similar, with one person ranking each one as 20 and two people ranking as 19. So I didn't really comfortable making the judgment call for inclusion.

My idea: at the end of the mini-polls if there are any extras then we can have one final vote where people choose their preferred 52, weening out the few extras.

As a side note, another mod came up with the idea of having a miscellaneous folder where people can alter the challenge and enter the book that they chose instead. That way if there's a week that you don't like then you can choose a book that falls under a different suggested category.

I will be creating a folder tomorrow evening for suggestions for the next mini-poll :)

No problem with the 5 choices, maybe in a poll we'll have only 3 in the top, if not we'll do a final poll with all the selected suggestions to decide the final ones :)

First list added in the 1st post of the announcement topic.

Peter Thanks Laura for taking the time to do all of this!
Results look good. :)

Just a suggestion for the final poll, but if there are extra topics because of close calls like this, it might be easier to poll which ones are least wanted rather than the 52 people do want.

It will make the results a lot cleaner, and will be much easier for people talking the poll to do. Too much choice in a poll or survey can be a bad thing and causes confusion. With potentially 60-70 options, choosing 52 will be a daunting task. It will be a lot easier to determine and select the smaller number of unwanted topics, and a lot easier to analyze the results.

Adriana Pereira (adrianacecilia) I was excited to see the results! I love all the choices!

EDIT: So these choices are in week order or are they going to be all sorted out later?

They'll be sorted out later in order to allow for one short book per month or any other considerations that seem relevant to the list. We're just breaking it up into small chunks to make the polls more manageable in length :)

I agree! I like the choices so far well. I'm excited to see more suggestions and the results!

Laura, that makes sense. That allows for any time sensitive topics related to holidays, seasons or other events throughout the year to be slotted in to the respective week.

Bana AZ (anabana_a) | 414 comments Thanks, Laura! I put all of those except Reader's Choice near my top votes, but judging from this year, a Reader's Choice might be really useful.

Sophie (sawphie) I agree Ana, I don't know if it is because we are already halfway into the challenge, but I feel that I have less and less liberty to choose every week. I'm glad to discover new books but I would love to have more opportunities to decrease the number of books in my TBR instead of reading unplanned books!

Brittany (booksandbottles) (gamerkiti) I think if all else fails and we end up with over 52 topics, maybe we could just leave the extra couple on the list as "extras" instead of having a "misc" folder for those readers that are super bionic readers.

I am excited with the list so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing what other suggestions pop up for the next poll!

.•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*•. Christine .•*¨`*•✿ ✿•*¨`*• Or, the extras could be "Wild Card" options that could be substituted for a week you really aren't interested in.

Francesca | 391 comments Will there be another topic created where just the final results from each poll will be posted? In the main topic part you could post these five results and then just update that list with each of the final poll results each time and that way it might be a bit easier for everyone to keep up with it and be able to see what topics have already been chosen so far. It might also give everyone a better idea of the challenge list that is being compiled and built on.

This was just an idea. I could always do it myself if the Mods are a bit too busy with sorting out these polls and suggestion topics.

On that note, thank you to the Mods! I know how much of your time and effort must be used for this group and now with these as well on top of your own reading I really do appreciate all the hard work that you all put in! Next years challenge looks great already! Although, I am slightly biased as the topic I suggested luckily made this list!

That's a good thought though, Francesca. I can add a line linking the Announcements in future Suggestion topics :)
