Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Feeling a little bit down today and could use some cheering up. Can anyone recommend a book that makes you smile? Doesn't need to be funny just looking for something that gives you a boost. Any genre.

Thanks in advance.

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Thanks Carmen I'll have a look for it. Something a bit steamy might be just what I need.

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments I keep seeing the Fifty Sheds books but wasn't sure if they'd be any good.

The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson I smiled through most of this book-amazing writing and such an endearing protagonist :)

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Sara, I'm totally in the minority when it comes to that book but I didn't enjoy it that much. Reminded me a lot of Forrest Gump which I also didn't like.

Think I'm too bitter and twisted :-)

Constance McKee (constance_mckee) | 40 comments I'm new here and kind of late to this discussion, but I just finished reading The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsian (sp?) and it made me smile. A recent read that was also feel-good was Make a Wish but not for Money by Suzanne Strempek-Shea. Both are light, but well-written.

Alison (a1ison74) | 2826 comments Hi Constance,

Thanks for the suggestions. Rosie project has been on my TBR list for ages. One of these days I must actually get round to reading it.

Sara Evans Try Friends Without Benefits (Knitting in the City, #2) by Penny Reid or check out a few of Penny Reid books, they're not too intense. And, you should definitely read Tangled (Tangled, #1) by Emma Chase you'll have a stupid grin on your face the whole time.
Also, Room for You (Cranberry Inn, #1) by Beth Ehemann , it's sweet romance with a perfect hero, and you'll be swooning the whole time at his cute gestures.

Jen (reader44ever) | 2930 comments I'm a little late with my suggestion, but every book in the Kate Daniels series (urban fantasies) by Ilona Andrews leaves me with a smile on my face. :-)

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels, #4) by Ilona Andrews Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews Magic Rises (Kate Daniels, #6) by Ilona Andrews Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, #7) by Ilona Andrews Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels, #8) by Ilona Andrews

Also, I have a few books (romances) that I read when my anxiety and depression are especially bad. Whenever I have a really bad anxiety attack, I read one or all (usually all) of these books:

Absolutely, Positively by Jayne Ann Krentz A Little Fate by Nora Roberts A Little Magic by Nora Roberts Getting Rid of Bradley by Jennifer Crusie Manhunting by Jennifer Crusie Ravished by Amanda Quick The Paid Companion by Amanda Quick Wait Until Midnight by Amanda Quick Lie by Moonlight (Vanza, #4) by Amanda Quick

Addendum: The two Nora Roberts books have six stories between them, and they always make me cry. But it's a healthier crying (happy tears) than my anxiety attack, so I always feel calmer when I've finished them. :-)
