Which is better the movie based on the book or the book itself?

Jo Well, personally, I prefer the book because the author has the possibility of putting additional scenes that do not necessarily have to be completely interesting story, but if you reveal another characters' "face". Besides the fact that the film is just time to tell a story. Anyway, there are many films that are very nice and very faithful to the book, but I think for imagination and taste, go over the books.
In the case of "A Walk to remember" I really liked the use of the stage, and also the choice of characters, since at least Landon's character is almost nailed. Hahahaha ... it's like watching a character walking and out. I think the movie lives up to the book.

Ekta Singh Its always books. I read and saw the movie "Gone Girl" & "Twillight -Saga", and in my conclusion books are far more better. The kind of description and to imagine character from the "eyes" of writer is the true bliss.

I'm in the middle of reading A Walk To Remember and so far I love the book. I loved the beginning of the book because it expresses the background of the book really well and I felt that the author did a very good job describing the background the book and giving the audience a vision of the characters, the time, and the setting of the book.

Kristen Usually the books are better. The movie was done pretty well, so I don't know that I'd say one or the other was better. They're set in different times and have different 'scenes', so they're like slightly different stories.

I do think it's stupid that they ruined the title in the movie though. That's probably my main problem with it.

I wish that in the movie they added more scenes from the book because some of the scenes in the book I loved and I wished that they added the scenes in the movie to add more details and more visuals and more backgrounds in the movie.

Ashley Justice So usually, I always prefer the book in most cases, but this one is the exception. I felt the movie was better by far than the book. I did not like how a huge portion of the book was describing the setting. I missed how the playhouse set up the story. When I read it, all I could think about was this setting. I did watch the movie first, so my expectations were set up when reading. I felt Mr. Sparks general idea was about Landon & Jamie and how their choices to change their judgments about one another shaped who they are and their futures. I felt the book didn't convey this message. I disliked this book so much, I gave it away as quick as possible.

I saw the movie first too and then I read the book. I feel that you should always read the book first before you see the movie. Don't you?

Ashley Justice Halle,

Yes, I agree. One should always read the book first. Honestly, there are some movies I've watched without knowing they were originally books. Such the case for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". But yes, I agree with you 100

Lorie I DON'T THINK I'VE SEEN A MOVIE/SHOW THAT I THOUGHT WAS BETTER THAN THE BOOK. SOMETHING ABOUT PICTURING THE CHARACTERS IN YOUR HEAD MAKES IT MORE PERSONAL AND MEMORABLE. I DID LOVE THIS MOVIE BUT I DIDNT CARE FOR MANDY MOORE AS JAMIE.

Ashley i've read the book and seen the movie, i definitely think the book is much more better in my opinion you just have a better connection with the book i definitely cried my eyes out in both the book and movie though!

Gerd Movie for certain in this case.
I felt the book to be terribly long for just 200 pages, and frankly I thought Jamie's God obsession to be creepy.
Also, I didn't like spending time in Landon's head, he's a prejudiced arse who completely revolved around himself; which made it pretty hard to care for anything, where the movie never fails to have me in tears.

Watching the movie gave me a better visual of the characters, the setting, and the story.

Alexis | Booklover101 ♡ THE MOVIE. THE MOVIE. THE MOVIE. is amazing... Honestly, I love it more than words can describe :)

tamia watts usually, I'm the girl that hates the movie because i read the book first and it was simply outstanding and nothing can live up to it..however this is not the case..
i watched the movie first and it is my absolute FAVORITE.. i absolutely love that movie..that is one of the few movies i can watch 3 times in a row and not get tired of it... well, i soon found out it was by Nick so i picked up the book and read it as well... though it was not what i was expecting, because the movie is different than the book, i loved it in a whole new way. it was back in time, not as modern as the movie, and jamie was a slightly different person in the movie. regardless, i love them both in different ways but if i had to choose one it would be the movie..

My favorite songs on the soundtrack were only hope by Mandy Moore and Swtichfoot, Cry, Dare you to move, you, and learning to breathe! I loved the songs Switchfoot wrote and performed on the soundtrack! The perfect addition for the movie and the soundtrack! Don't you agree?! :)

I agree! (:

Xette For me, it's not "which is better?", it's the feeling after I've read and watched it. I've cried in the book. I've cried in the movie. I had that same feeling of bittersweet. I loved both. Screw it, I love the story itself.

Kimelene Carr This is probably the one time that the movie was better.

message 32: by Zeke (new) - rated it 4 stars

Zeke Yeah I liked the movie better too. Maybe because I watched the movie before I read the book, the whole thing got stuck in my head the same way but the book isn't bad either. I cried for both

message 33: by Jade (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jade I absolutely adored both!

I honestly can't decide which one I love more as they both were utterly amazing. I would usually say that hands down the book was better, but in this case I found the movie to be on par with the book in so many ways. The characters, the storyline and the feelings that were created were excellent in both!

They both completely tore me up! I cried so much!

message 34: by Chantelle (new)

Chantelle For sure the book. The acting in the movie is terrible. Still enjoy the movie, but it's sub par compared to the book.

message 35: by Abby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abby wothe i love them both one of my favorites

message 36: by Anne (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anne C. I'm gonna go for book but they also did a good job in the movie adaptation. :D

message 37: by Giulia (last edited Apr 23, 2017 04:23PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Giulia fucking hated the movie they got the characters totally wrong Not from the looks but their personalities) and added scenes that just disturbed the whole thing.
Like the scene where jamie asks landon if she's gonna see him later and he is like "In your dreams!", that never happened in the book and he never would have done something like that in the book!
and the first scene was totally unnecessary as well, like ugh...
Landon wouldn't leave the guy behind, like are you for real?!
