Alternate Realities: A Scifi Book Club discussion

I found Mark Watney to be very funny and refreshing, but I have hear the criticism that he is a Mary Sue. I did think that myself as well while reading it, but gave it a pass because the character is so entertaining. What do you think.

I agree. As an electrical engineer who works with mechanical engineers every day, I found Mark's Macguyver-like ability to almost always cobble together a solution a little unbelievable (when something breaks at one of our plants, it's often a team effort to get it back working again). But the humor and the plot kept me engaged, and I was definitely rooting for him the whole way through!
