Smilla's Sister (smillassister) | 10 comments Hi guys,

I've just read After the Snow and I'm speechless. The book is so beautiful. It makes me wonder, however, if there're other winter apocalypse books around? Please recommend!

Yes, I've already looked through Listopia, etc, but couldn't find anything. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Julia | 957 comments There's a YA series I really liked, where the apocalypse is brought on by the volcano under Yellowstone erupting. The MC lives many states away, but the eruption brings months of ash, which seems like snow-- and cold, the sun can't pierce the ash.

Mike Mullin is the author the books are Ashfall, Ashfall (Ashfall, #1) by Mike Mullin , Ashen Winter Ashen Winter (Ashfall, #2) by Mike Mullin and Sunrise Sunrise (Ashfall, #3) by Mike Mullin . There's also Darla's Story (Ashfall, #0.5) by Mike Mullin , a prequel that I haven't read yet.

Also look at Emmy Laybourne's Monument 14 Monument 14 (Monument 14, #1) by Emmy Laybourne , Sky on Fire Sky on Fire (Monument 14, #2) by Emmy Laybourne and Savage Drift Savage Drift (Monument 14, #3) by Emmy Laybourne . Set in suburban Colorado, it's cold at the beginning, but it just gets colder.

If you read fantasy or magic realism I strongly recommend The Snow Child The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey by Eowyn Ivey. It's not apocalyptic, but it's about rural farmers in Alaska.

Michelle Nogales (mnogales) Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer--it's YA and the narrator's voice reflects it in what I found to be a really compelling way. An asteroid hits the moon and sends it off its orbit, causing tsunamis, earthquakes, etc., culminating in a horrible and horribly early winter. The protagonist is a suburban teen who needs to grow up fast as her mom tries to take care of the family. I really enjoyed it.

Mark | 37 comments There is also Snowfall, a novel taking place during a post-apocalyptic ice age caused by changes in Jupiter's gravity, if I remember correctly.

Its the first of a trilogy; first book was decent but nothing special.

Pat (patthebadger) | 50 comments Adam Roberts' The Snow - it starts to snow and doesn't stop. Eventually the whole planet is under a mile of snow. You can't get much more winter apocalypse than that. It's been a few years since I read it - I remember it being quite good but not brilliant.
