Kane Taylor (kano84) Hi all. I just joined S&L a week or two ago and this is my first attempt at book club. It's also the first book that I've listened to by way of audiobook. I'm finding it suprisingly easy to follow. I thought I'd get too distracted when only listening, but that's not the case.
I'm up to chapter 12 now, so no spoilers past there please.
Either way, this isn't a book I would have chosen myself but I'm very glad I've given it a go. Really enjoying it so far and can't wait to see where it all leads.

SPOILERS UP TO CHAPTER 12.

I'm really interested to see where this book goes. I haven't even read the blurb so I know absolutely nothing about where the story is heading. I think the story that Kirsten has read in the comic book may become relevant as things progress, but I'm not certain. Given that this is a sci-fi book, I'm assuming the story doesn't just focus on the virus, but I may be wrong. It would be cool if that story in the comic book is an indication of an actual real project that has happened. Either way, great book and one that I'm really enjoying.

Daniel K | 164 comments This book is definitely fast and easy read. Writing style is not too sophisticated so its easy to progress quickly.

I was in the same boat as you never knowing anything about the plot before reading. So i also hoped that real plot would be in far future in space at some station numbered eleven. )

Pre-apocalyptic and post-apocaliptic arcs i don't find very enthralling actually.

P.S. BTW i think you should've put this thread to current club book subforum and given the title "SE" starting (from Station Eleven).

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments Hi Kane, and welcome! :D

Just a few things. One, we like to use the book title initials at the beginning of the thread name so people know what the thread relates to, so this one would be called "SE: Up to chapter 12 - thoughts so far.". Two, it's best to open the thread in the relevant section, the Station Eleven section in this case, rather than just the general section. Hopefully someone with mod powers will be able to sort this for you.

But no worries, glad you are enjoying the book so far. Who narrates the audiobook you are reading? The UK version is narrated by Jack Hawkins, and I thought he did an excellent job.

Kane Taylor (kano84) Hi guys. Apologies for that. I thought I had posted in the Station Eleven section but obviously got it wrong. As for the "SE" part, I'll keep that in mind for next time.
I'm also listening to the Jack Hawkins audiobook. Some of his American accents seen slightly off, but overall he has done a great job. I have just over six hours to go now. Nothing groundbreaking has occurred yet and I'm not sure whether it will. I'm enjoying seeing how all the stories intertwine, but that seems to be about it.
If nothing else, it's a big difference from the epic fantasy that I almost exclusively read and I'm really enjoying the change. I will most definitely follow along with each monthly book to continue to expand my variety.

Veronique just finished up till chapter 12 and I think it's already an amazing book. wouldn't have chosen it myself but I like it really much. I haven't read the extract so Idk where the story is heading so this keeps me guessing

Kane Taylor (kano84) Nice one. I'd be keen to hear your thoughts once you finish it. I didn't love it as much as I thought I was going to at the start, but it was still a good read. Definitely not my usual sort of book, that's for sure.

Link Parish (linkparish) | 4 comments Okay. Wow. Not a book I would have grabbed off of the shelf on my own. I am recommending it to friends regardless of their favorite genre. I liked her writing style and throughout the read I found myself stopping (not because I wanted to) to think about my life. Our lives.
Good choice.
Next?

Alex | 90 comments Am I the only one bored to death by this book? I'm about 18 chapters in and spent about 12 of those chapters wondering what the point of this book is =\ I can't see what everyone else is seeing in this book! =S

John (Taloni) Taloni (johntaloni) | 5196 comments Nah, I gritted my teeth to get to the end too. May as well finish it, but there's no great payoff. It's a mood piece and the only real point to it is the characters. You either like that kind of writing or you don't.

Come on over to Uprooted though - this month's pick. It's got neat characters and a rollicking plot. A bit tedious in spots but overall good, and has a great ending.

Tina (javabird) | 765 comments Alex, I didn't really enjoy it either. I guess I was surprised by all the great reviews, but maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea.

I'm still waiting for Uprooted from my library. It will probably be available by the end of the month...
