Sonja Williams | 14 comments Greetings Everyone!

In light of the recent events (both tragic and inspiring) affecting black communities nationwide, I was just wondering what words of wisdom/reflection you might have - or have read about in a recent book.

Please click on the following link to see my thoughts about a past July 4th drama by African American writer Richard Durham about legendary abolitionist Harriet Tubman. http://www.sonjadwilliams.com/blog/

Would love to read your comments. Thanks!

Helen Erwin | 95 comments This is wonderful.
Very fitting to be reminded of her today.
Tubman was a real hero. Her courage is almost unfathomable. It would be big deal TODAY, to rescue so many people. But to do it alone, in the woods at night, walking for miles most often, hiding from everyone responsible for so many people. Then on top of it all suffer from narcolepsy as well.
It is really extraordinary that she went back south so many times.

She was an amazing amazing woman.

She is mentioned several times in my novel James´ Journey. As a matter of fact Harriet Tubman was a big inspiration for me and one of the reasons why I wrote it.

Helen Erwin | 95 comments As for thoughts on the horrible things that has happened lately. I think that we have a lot to talk about in this country.
I have not read anything recently but I listened to a great program on NPR, it is not inspiring but it explains a lot about what has been going on in this country.

Most people don´t know about this, but it is a very important piece of history that everyone should be aware of.
We have to work on this. I think that diversity is the most important concept we have to teach our kids and each other.

Wow, I did not know this. Thanks for the link. Things like this are hard to confront but it is necessary if we want to build a better society.
