Hi everyone,

In the hopes of getting a bit more "prep time" before August starts, I'm going to take suggestions for that Book of the Month for the next week and will be putting up the poll next Sunday. That way, it can be announced a couple of weeks before August 1st so that members can source a copy.

Please list your nominations below.
Thanks,
Becky

By the way, it is the 150th anniversary of the printing of Thoreau's "Cape Cod" so I'm nominating it as our August read.

It is also free through Project Gutenberg here:

Mary Hannibal | 6 comments I'm happy to read "Cape Cod," but here's another title for the hopper. How about "The Purple Land" by W.H. Hudson? Both Borges and Hemingway were influenced by it. Hudson is best known for "Green Mansions," which I'd also like to read.

Phair (sphair) I would suggest either The Outermost House: A Year of Life On The Great Beach of Cape Cod The Outermost House A Year of Life On The Great Beach of Cape Cod by Henry Beston or The End of Night Searching for Natural Darkness in an Age of Artificial Light by Paul Bogard The End of Night: Searching for Natural Darkness in an Age of Artificial Light. I have read both (in fact one prompted me to pick up the other) and loved both.

Ray Zimmerman | 706 comments Would love to read Cape Cod, having lived there briefly, or reread the Outermost House (also set on Cape Cod). Any of the suggested books could be a great read.
Here is a link for The Open Space of Democracy, just to put one more suggestion in the list. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

I see some really good suggestions already, so I won't add another for August. Since too many books really spreads out the interest. Sher

Sent to me via email:

I would like to recommend, Nature's Trust by Mary Christina Wood. Nature's Trust: Environmental Law for a New Ecological Age

This is really a must read book to understand how our government is controlled by Industry with respect to the human relationship with nature.

Hello Everyone- I am wondering who is planning to read the August book The End of Night? Do you have time this month- are you able to get this title...?

My copy arrived a few days ago, and I am just starting it.

Hi Rach--great! And, some of my same thoughts-- one more thing I had not really known about or worried about. More to say when the discussion forum opens! I have read 2 chapters!
