Because although the woman is supposed to be resourceful, she can't really be seen to (view spoiler) I guess that would be going too far.

Maybe. But it would be nice if that could be avoided in some way that didn't make her look like a nitwit!

I agree, the cave was awesome. I kept thinking of Carlsbad Caverns. (view spoiler)

That's true, he is pretty sure of himself. You could tell that from his trip with Lucy to Achillion palace.

Chap. 14: The XK150 Godfrey drives is a Jaguar sports car made between 1957 and 1961. Here's a pic:

A sure sign of a really old home!

Chapter 16: The tension is getting thicker . . . (view spoiler)

Have any of you ever used a paraffin stove? I don't think I've ever even seen one! Unless it's a propane type?

I love the way she talks herself out of cowardice. She knows what she doesn't want to do, but she knows it's the right thing to do. She does have to continue giving herself pep talks, but I love that her moral compass is dead on!

I just finished chapter 17 and the suspense!!!!
Likely I won't be able to put it down until I finish.

yes, she is brave but foolish and then (view spoiler)

That's right, it's Phyllida who says that.
You're probably right about Lucy being foolish, but I've never seen her that way. She feels responsible and overcomes her fears to do what she considers her bounden duty. I rather admire that.
It had me worried, though, or wondering, in that whole beach to bath to kitchen sequence where Lucy does not yet now that Max is alright, but still she says: "I would do anything in the world for you." Oh no you don't! What if he is a smuggler, after all? What if he had a hand in Yanni Zoulas's death? Your instinct may tell you that he doesn't, but you don't know that! You'd better take a leaf out of Linda's book (Nine Coaches Waiting).

Yes, I never thought Lucy was in to ‘rough sex’. She is in any case, strangely naive for a woman of her age.
I thought it obvious at this point that whatever else Max has been up to, he is not a murderer or a smuggler so I congratulate Lucy for following her instincts.
