Leigh | 6291 comments And now for a little silliness.

Tell the group one weird/odd quirk that you have. Can't eat blue food? Only eat with plastic utensils? Only drink orange juice? Only write with blue pens?

I LOATHE the color red. That means no Louboutin shoes, Dooney and Burke bags, or red roses. If it has any red on it or in it, I won't buy it. And yes, red on a book cover has caused me to initially skip over a book.

message 2: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (notrace) Really? No red. I will not judge but that is something I have not encountered before. lol I LOVE the colour red so we probably couldn't hang out. ;)

message 3: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 6291 comments My sister loves red too. I don't get it. When we go shopping together she holds up red stuff and I hate all of just because of the color.

My mother tried to buy me and my sister matching red dress when were little (we are twins) and I was having none of it.

Ajay | 32 comments I have a weird one. I can't eat in or even look at utensils that has designs on them. My dinner plate should always be plain. Strictly no designs on them.

message 5: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 6291 comments Good one. Of course, I don't think that's weird. ;-)

message 6: by Taylor (new)

Taylor Leigh, I bet this Valentine's day must really get under your skin!

message 7: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 6291 comments Oh god yes!!! Red everywhere. Yuckers.

message 8: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I have a lot of weird quirks. I can;t wear certain materials or cuts of clothing. Plain, medium-heavy weight cotton tees like GAP's 'favorite tee' really makes me uneasy. I can wear silky materials, jersey knits, etc., but not heavy cotton. I love the look of cableknit sweaters but that heavy weight of material makes me cringe and sweat.

I'm not crazy about red either.

message 9: by Linda (new)

Linda (beaulieulinda117gmailcom) | 1403 comments I love the color coral. I also love scooby doo. I have a collection of items that features scooby doo, such as my car mats, toothbrush, penils, bag, cards, and of course my scooby doll.

message 10: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 6291 comments I like yellow ones actually. But honestly they are not my favorite flower. I prefer orchids and gerbera daises.

OMG Welcome to MY little corner of the world....
I thought I was the only one...(actually these are all symptoms of tactile defensive disorder! ) and the other little wired eases are touches of Asbergers.... Not to worry as long as they don't send you into fits and widgets at the breakfast table, keep you friam leaving your room because getting dressed us a major event, or prevent you from leading a happy life.

message 13: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I actually figured I had some sort of sensory processing issue, but it doesn't really impact my life too greatly so it is what it is. I can't do loud noises either- balloons, fireworks, guns, etc.

message 14: by Ajay (new)

Ajay | 32 comments Gr8! i am from India as well. Hope you enjoyed here.

message 15: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments I am very obsessive compulsive about making decisions. I don't like to make them because on one side I want what I want but on the other side I don't want to upset someone else if it affects them! My husband says I have issues! I also can't stop at something until it's perfect. Like I made a baby invitation the other day and worked on it for hours even after everyone said it was okay. Okay wasn't good enough...only perfect is!

message 16: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments I also eat my food one at a time. I put everything on my dinner plate and will eat say the macaroni and cheese first then move on to the mashed potatoes and then my meat. I do not mix match food while eating! No reason, I just don't!

I do that too! And I'm an ice snob. I only like nugget ice, here in the Midwest it's found at the Sonic drive ins. They are tiny little nuggets, not just crushed.

Send all your red my way! lol

I must have a glass (glass) to drink from. No plastic or styrofoam! And I cannot stand thick glass. I want nice glass or crystal. Sorry, if it sounds snobbish, but it is just a thing I have about drinking from glasses. I am particular about cups, too. lol

Ava Catherine Andrea wrote: "I also eat my food one at a time. I put everything on my dinner plate and will eat say the macaroni and cheese first then move on to the mashed potatoes and then my meat. I do not mix match food ..."

I do this, too, but I do not want my food to touch. If I have food that might run into each other, I'll put it on a separate dish. Really, I prefer just to eat one food for a meal. Like a salad or spaghetti but not both.

message 20: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine I don't wear wool or anything with wool in it against my body. If an article of clothing has wool in it, I have to have a long sleeved t-shirt underneath to keep the wool away from my skin. Otherwise, I itch like a maniac.

I love silk against my skin.

VickiLee | 251 comments My students tease me about this - before I mark any student work (or hand it back) it must be alphabetized. It throws my mojo off if the student assignments are not in correct order according to last name. Strange, eh?

OMG I thought I was the only quirky teacher who did this. Every student was given a Student Number which was simply the number next to their names in my paper gradebook. (Although we didn't have to, right before my retirement I was still keeping a paper gradebook) When they handed in assignments I would hand the papers to someone in the front and ask them to put them in numerical order. (Easier than telling them alphabetical) Then I got the idea of using sticky notes that the student would put on the top of the pile of any numbers that were missing, with a lower case "a" for absent. So the first thing I did was enter in zero for any that were missing and not absent. It sounds complicated but it wasn't. The students thought I was crazy giving them numbers. But it made my life a lot easier. I had five classes so then I got the idea of color coding the folders 1st period green, 3rd period blue, etc. I even bought colored paper clips to use as well. If a student handed in a late assignment I'd put the appropriate color paper clip on it. I also made them enter the assignment (Too many students handing in late papers and I was supposed to figure out which homework assignment they were handing in). To avoid copying on major tests I used a randomizer on the computer, so I printed up 3 different versions, same questions just in different order.

message 26: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) Here is my other quirky thing. I don't like to read newspapers after someone else, other than my husband or daughter. I want to open a nicely folded new paper. I've even gotten fussy now with library books. I prefer Kindle for that reason. I always imagine that someone was reading the book in the bathroom or picking their nose or something gross like that. When I go to the library the first shelves I check are the new books. If it's something I really want if it's not too "used" looking I will check it out. I've become fussy about this only in the last 15 years or so. I'm not like that with anything but newspapers and books. In fact I have to remind myself to use the hand sanitizer or wipes before touching the shopping carts or anything like that during flu season.

You are not alone in that. There are people who are highly sensitive to things like that. I don't mind cloth tags on the inside of my shirts but some of my tee shirts I have cut out the tags that were like paper and I couldn't stand the feel of them on my back. I probably would have gone crazy in the pre World War II age to have to wear stockings with seams in them.

I love it! Our brains are amazing in their complex and quirky devotion to details that help us function well.

message 29: by Karen B. (new)

Karen B. (raggedy11) In the last ten years or so I have often wondered if I had a form of Adult
ADD. I've read a few books about it and I have a lot of things that go with it. As soon as I saw an commercial for Windows 8 told my best friend, I don't want to upgrade to that. I don't want too many screens. Even some web pages I find annoying because there are so many different things.

I read books at book stores.... Never at the library.(hangs head in shame)

message 31: by Huda (new)

Huda Sarkowi | 176 comments I don't drink carbonated drinks. ANY carbonated drinks. Not even 100plus. My friends told me it sweet and delicious but what I got from drinking it was some scorching fizzy sensation on my tongue and throat and I hate it. I finished a can of coca cola on a dare and ended up burping all night long.

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments Dean wrote: "Everything is a coke brand...they own all liquid on earth...even your sweat."

Bahaha...if that were the case then I wouldn't be spending an outrageous amount of money a month, I'd just lick my own sweat! HAHA Not really, though!

message 41: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments That's my one vice...caffeine! I don't drink (except your occasional dacquari with dinner) I don't smoke or do drugs, so I have to have my Coke and Mt. Dew

message 42: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Corley | 1298 comments I'm very OCD about my work. I can't stand to have anyone else help me because they don't do it my way! I have strict regimens that I stick to, a way I do things! Also, it has to be perfect or I won't stop...very meticulous! My husband says he wish I'd be that way at home and with cleaning! HAHA!

I like routine!

message 43: by Dee (new)

Dee (hatcherdee) I don't drink carbonated drinks or eat spicy, peppery foods. Food and drink should not cause me pain. I watch people around me munching on jalapeno peppers and wasabi and I just can't understand how they can enjoy that burning sensation.

message 44: by Dee (new)

Dee (hatcherdee) Jenni, doesn't it hurt? How do you get past the pain to the taste? I get a mouthful of something like jalapeno and I literally am afraid that I might die.

message 46: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 220 comments Love Indian food. My sister-in-law is from India and what she does with food when cooking is something else. She tries to tone it down for my mothers sake but it's like bring it on girl (I'll just have more riata if it's too spicy)
