@Jojiwoji: Maybe a better connection for the Easter one would be: Jesus > heaven > angels > angel cake ;)

Steve | 1031 comments Firstly, this looks like fun, so I'm in.

1. Strong Woman Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan, #1) by Kathy Reichs -- I almost feel like I am cheating by picking this, since someone else did, but I've been meaning to have a peek at her series for quite some time. ★★★☆☆

2. Reduce Behind Enemy Lines (Star Trek The Dominion War, #1) by John Vornholt ★★★★☆

3. Recycle New Spring (Wheel of Time, #0.2) by Robert Jordan ★★★★☆

4. Ides of March (murder) Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (Dirk Gently, #1) by Douglas Adams ★★★★☆

5. St Patrick's Day The Alchemyst (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #1) by Michael Scott ★★★☆☆

6. Labour Day Shattered by Dick Francis -- the main character is a glass blower ★★★★★

7. Colour of Autumn Blood of Dragons (The Rain Wild Chronicles, #4) by Robin Hobb ★★★★★

8. Easter The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams -- this might also be cheating, since I'm a fast reader, but Easter has always had big black connecting lines to rabbits for me ★★★★☆

9. ANZAC Day John Simpson Kirkpatrick by Allan Drummond -- I'd heard about this story in History class while in high school, and it always fascinated me. ★★★★☆

10. Mother's Day My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult ★★★★☆

11. TBR Star Trek Voyager Unworthy by Kirsten Beyer ★★★★★

12. TBR Star Trek Children of the Storm by Kirsten Beyer ★★★★☆

Looking at my list, I see number 12 had lots of red, so that gets yoinked to number 7, and it isn't hard to find some more Trek on my enormous TBR list. :-)

Now if you edit your first post Steve, you can add your extras into it, so it'll all be one! When you do, they will automatically go to the bottom of your list...just cut and paste them to where they are meant to go:)

message 66: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments Hmmm, I wasn't going to take part in this challenge - I've started getting involved in hobbies other than reading of late (one's a re-invigoration of a hobby I thought I'd lost interest in!), and I need to start getting stuck into more chores (I've been procrastinating for long enough)... And unfortunately, no matter how many things you want to do in a given day, there's still only 24 hours available to do them in :-/

However, I've been tempted by seeing everyone's posts about their books, and I sat down to see what I would pick from my TBR list if I was doing it, and...here I am! So I'll see what I can manage in between my hobbies, applying for jobs, and trying to create some order in the chaos of my belongings!!

1. International Women's Day - Australian events 1.3.13 - 30.3.13 - - Read a book about a strong female character either fiction or non-fiction.
Either:
The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection (No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency #13) by Alexander McCall Smith The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection by Alexander McCall Smith, or
The Fiction Class by Susan Breen The Fiction Class by Susan Breen

- or both...!

Clean Up Australia Day - 3.3.13 -
2. REDUCE - Read a book from your TBR shelf
TBA

3. RECYCLE - Read any book from the library
TBA

4. The Ides of March - 15.3.13 -
Read a book with a murder or assassination in the plot.
Bloody Brisbane Murder In The River City by Jack Sim Bloody Brisbane: Murder In The River City by Jack Sim

5. St. Patrick's Day - 17.3.13 -
Read a book written by an Irish author, set in Ireland or has an Irish character.
An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor

6. Australian Labour Day used to be called Eight Hours Day
Choose a book whose main characters are working class people, e.g. construction, office or health workers, policemen or teachers.
Either:
A Mercy by Toni Morrison A Mercy by Toni Morrison - I think slaves should count, shouldn't they? - OR
The Midwife A Memoir of Birth, Joy, and Hard Times by Jennifer Worth The Midwife: A Memoir of Birth, Joy, and Hard Times by Jennifer Worth - midwife

7. Colours of Autumn - Choose a book which has red, gold, brown, orange or yellow in the title or whose cover is primarily an Autumn colour.
Inkheart (Inkheart, #1) by Cornelia Funke Inkheart by Cornelia Funke - I'm not convinced I'll like this (might be too sci-fi for my tastes, but am going to try), so I have a backup:
The Far Country by Nevil Shute The Far Country by Nevil Shute - and I'm reading this for another challenge already!!

8. Easter - 29.3.13 - 1.4.13 -
Read a book that YOU would associate with Easter:
90 Minutes in Heaven A True Story of Death & Life by Don Piper 90 Minutes in Heaven: A True Story of Death & Life by Don Piper - Easter means the death and resurrection of Jesus to life, for me, and this book is the author's account of 1.5 hours he spent in heaven, having been declared dead.

9. Anzac Day - 25.4.13 - Read a book depicting the ANZACs or anything connected to war where our Australian and/or New Zealand troops took part.
The War Diaries Of Weary Dunlop by E.E. Dunlop The War Diaries Of Weary Dunlop by E.E. Dunlop

10. Mothers Day - 12.5.13 - Read a book depicting mothers/grandmothers and family; with a special connection to Mothers/Grandmothers:)
The Mothers' Group by Fiona Higgins The Mothers' Group by Fiona Higgins

And finally, for those of you who read quickly and want more......

11. & 12. Finish the challenge with at least two books from your TBR list - Just because you can!!
I might pick from these books for tasks number 2 (reduce) and 3 (reuse - I own none of these and would be borrowing from the library), and tasks 11 and 12 (if I have time to read extras!) - or I may yet pick completely different books!
Grand Days by Frank Moorhouse Grand Days by Frank Moorhouse
The Little Shadows by Marina Endicott The Little Shadows by Marina Endicott Maisie Dobbs (Maisie Dobbs, #1) by Jacqueline Winspear Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear
The Children of the King by Sonya Hartnett The Children of the King by Sonya Hartnett
The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe
The Comfort of Figs by Simon Cleary The Comfort of Figs by Simon Cleary
