Hannah Marae In my opinion, you just need to make sure you realize that a lot of these books lack the substance you might be used to. For me they're guilty pleasure reads. Just make sure you don't expect them to be anything they're not and I think you'll be good. I used to never read anything but fantasy and sci-fi and considered books like these to be not worth my time. I was definitely pleasantly surprised!

Jeannie (jeanniesaurus) For a less jarring experience I would check out a couple Urban Fantasy novels first then jump into Paranormal/Fantasy romance. The reason being most Urban Fantasy have the level of violence I suspect you're looking for with a little romance on the side. Paranormal/Fantasy romance focuses more on what is happening in the relationship. Both have their place but it may be an easier transition for you.
