Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments I want to move on to my next challenge book. What should I read? Here are the books from the list I have handy:

The Great and Secret Show
House of Leaves
The Passage
The Omen
Rosemary's Baby
Midnight (Koontz)
Black Butterflies
Desperation
Carrion Comfort

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I will make my decision later today in time for evening reading time. Thanks!

Amanda M. Lyons (amandamlyons) I liked The Great and Secret Show. It depends if you want something that is as much fantasy as horror though.

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments Well, that was quick. We have a winner!

It sounds like there is an overwhelming push for Carrion Comfort. Dan Simmons is one of my favorite Horror authors and I've only been putting this one off because of its length.

There is a slight problem, though. My dog got a hold of the book and ripped out a 2"x 2" chunk of 20 consecutive pages. Fortunately, it was a pretty neat extraction for dog teeth and I don't think I'm missing any words.

I'm going to give it a try. I've never really been a fan of vampirism, but perhaps this will change my mind.

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments ...and thanks for the input, too!

message 10: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments There is a scene in CC where I am sitting on the edge of my seat, holding my breath, waiting for it to be over and for the character to make it out of there alive. It is an excellent book.

Char | 17459 comments I hope you enjoy it, Andrew! Please let us know. :)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments More than a month later and I'm finished. Phew... 5 stars, check out my review and thanks again for the recommendation.

I'm deciding what I want to read next...

The Terror, Swan Song, The Passage, or Carrion Comfort.

I might have to pick Carrion Comfort now. :)

message 15: by Char (new)

Char | 17459 comments All of those were great, except for The Passage, in my book. The Passage was ok, but there was a definite pacing problem.
You cannot go wrong with any of your other choices. :)
Happy Reading!

I've got all of the other three you mentioned if you want to buddy up. High recommendations for Carrion Comfort.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading The Terror right now - I know I changed my mind. Lol. I'm open to reading any of them though - I have all of them too.

message 18: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments Cool, I've wanted to read that for awhile now. I'm gonna wait a bit though. I try not to read the same author twice in a row. Dunno why.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Feel free to drop a line or two when you eventually do read it. It is really - really good so far. I probably won't read Carrion Comfort immediately after but I will soon.
If you want to buddy read Swan Song or The Passage I'm good for those. I also have - from your list above - The Omen and The Great and Secret Show. Barker I read years ago and used to love but don't remember to much about it.

I just ordered a paperback copy of CARRION COMFORT that should be arriving this week. Let me know if anyone is up for a buddy read on this one. ;)

I have another book lined up first, so I could start this one end of the week, or early next week?

message 21: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 01, 2013 09:08AM) (new)

I'll join. And can start any time. Early next week is probably better for me though. I should be done with The Terror by then.

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments I'll be sure to hang around and discuss with you. I'd love to talk about the book a bit more and see your reactions to some of the cooler parts of the book.

I have a copy of Carrion Comfort I've been meaning to get to--so if you don't mind another reader I'm in

Now I'm very very curious.

Sounds great! I love being able to discuss a book with someone while reading it--sadly, very few in my area have any interest in my type of literature--LOL!

message 29: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments Someone should create a new Carrion Comfort buddy read thread. It might attract a few more readers.

Great idea! Unfortunately, I'm utter useless when it comes to anything remotely computer-related.... Anyone else?

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Anyone can do it - I can if you want. You click on the folder name "Buddy Reads". A list of all the topics filed under this folder should show up in a straight line. At the top is a link labeled "new topic" - click on this and it will put you in the place to create your new topic. It doesn't look much different than when you post a comment.

message 32: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments I'll do it!

message 33: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 730 comments All set. The thread is called, "Carrion Comfort, 2013" and can be found in the Buddy Reads section.
