Some writers don't show their work to anyone, but you can't get better without some advice. That's why we've set up this thread: to help find someone that would be willing to read and critique your writing. Whether you are starting out and want quick advice, or you have a manuscript you're hoping to revise, this is the place for you.

PLEASE reply with the following information about your WIP:

---

Type: Fiction, prose, poetry, short story? Name it here.
Status: Finished or not?
Word Count: This really only applies to long pieces of fiction, but put an approximate word count here.
Genre: Again, this really applies to short stories and pieces of fiction.
Summary: What's your book about? Try to limit the summary to 200 - 250 words.

---
All this will help give information someone decide if they want to critique your work. If you are someone who is interested in critiquing/Betaing someone's work, send them a personal message where you can exchange further contact details.

J S Williams | 7 comments Hello everyone,

I would be hugely grateful if anyone would mind taking a look at the first chapter of my novel. I just need to know if it is good enough to publish; any advice and feedback would be massively appreciated.

Amy - I am more than happy to read your first chapter if you would still like someone to take a look?

Here are the details of my novel as requested:

Type: Fiction Novel, 'The Extraordinary Adventures of Christopher Strange'.

Status: Finished - just trying to edit!

Word Count: 76,000

Genre: Young Adult / Dystopian / Thriller

Summary: Christopher Strange is sixteen years old. He lives in a future Britain which is isolated from the rest of the world and ruled by an autocratic Prime Minister and his right-wing True British Party. Britain’s cities are segregated into separate Boroughs; freedom of movement is severely restricted and food rationing is in force due to heavy import and export restrictions. Unemployment has been eradicated thanks to the re-introduction of workhouses for anyone without a job, and the free press and the internet are illegal.
The story begins the day before Christopher begins his Honour Service; a compulsory two-year National Service program which all British children must commence upon reaching their sixteenth birthday. We meet Christopher, his best friend Marcus Eden, and Christopher’s Aunt Annie and Uncle John, with whom he lives. He was orphaned at the age of four when his parents died in an automobile accident.
The story that follows tells of Christopher’s Honour Service and the events that lead him to seek out and join the resistance. We follow Christopher on a journey across a hostile and unfamiliar Britain as he seeks safety and what it is to be free.
