M… Tattoos & Teacups by Anna Martin – 06/03 – ★★★★
English authors bring a refreshingly different 'voice' to the written word; and despite being set in America, this book has that English-ness. This is a lovely slow-building romance with a few kinky twists to make it interesting. If you like instant gratification, then you may find yourself frustrated with the pace of this novel but it is well worth persevering to the HEA. Rob was a lovely staid, almost stodgy character (reminded me a bit of a favourite teddy bear) who was juxtaposed with Chris...a flighty, emotionally needy, much younger man...together they are like peanut butter & honey...yummy.
A… A Shared Range – 07/03 – ★★★★
This is a lovely solid start to a great series (I've read them before)...Dakota (slightly bodgy name) & Wally make a cute if clichéd couple & there are lots of ancillary characters to whet your appetite for the other books in the series. The wolves, lions & tigers & bears (Oh. My!) make for an interesting twist to the typical cowboy drama...if you like your man-lovin' to come with chaps & spurs then the cowboys in this series are rugged & sexy enough to satisfy...if you don't mind the slightly effete plot-line then you are in for a fun read.
A… A Troubled Range – 08/03 – ★★★★
Book 2 in the Range series & we have the virgin & the slut plot line. Don't get me wrong, Grey does write better than most but I do find the formulaic writing style of some authors doesn't do the characters justice.
Phillip & Haven (about the names Andrew!) take the starring role in this sequel & they do make a lovely couple so I was willing to over-look (well, I tried to keep the eye-rolling to a minimum!) the insta-love & the melodrama of the family feud.
It was nice to touch base with Wally & Dakota too & I hope Mario's story features in one of the future books. This series is better than a lot of m/m out there but it isn't without faults. If you don't mind a predictable plot line with slightly two-dimensional characters, then you are guaranteed a pleasant reading experience with a satisfying HEA...these books are what I would term as 'comfort reads' with minimal angst...fun to snack on but not quite substantial enough to truly satisfy.
R… Rogues – 11/03 – ★★★★
This was a nice addition to the Brook Street series. I didn't feel as enamoured with the MC's in this story as I did with previous characters from the series, but their story was vividly portrayed & enjoyable to read none-the-less. If you have enjoyed the preceding books, you'll find this one essential reading too.
T… Texas Rough – 16/03 – ★☆
This book started well but quickly deteriorated into a sophomoric, angst-ridden story about chicks with dicks. I was also disappointed by how shallowly the major issues of the plot were dealt with. Lane was freaked out about his health status after Gresh goes bareback...story line petered out without resolution. Lane has huge self-esteem issues about his scars...self-esteem issues petered out without too much introspection. Lane was fearful of coming out in a small town...everyone was Pollyanna-ish in their acceptance (despite homophobia being evident in the early part of the book). Gresh has no control over his own destiny or finances yet is still wealthy after defying his father? WTF? And where was the big show-down between Gresh & his father over the whole engagement fiasco? And to top it off, there was this weird insta-love thing going on with Riley. W.T.F...This is an odd book...it almost felt like it was originally written as a m/f romance but the author changed the gender of Lane but left the rest of the story pretty much as it was...there are much better books out there.
