Wayne McNeill (waynemcneill) | 50 comments Long ago I knew a woman who was in charge of the "Entertainment" section of a newspaper. She asked me if I'd do a few interviews with tv guys because she didn't want to and their agents were hounding her. I said I'd give it a shot. Meet in a restaurant, expenses paid, including the booze. I did a few. Awful but I stuck with it. The money was good. Then I had to interview one of the guys from the old cop show called "CHIPS." It was too much. I walked out and left him with the bill. I phoned my editor and said I was done with it. I heard later that the next interview was going to be with James Garner. Rockford! One of my heroes! Oh well.

Wonderful!

As an interviewer you haven't lived until you've interviewed 100 classical music performers, of which 59 didn't know what day of the week it was, and spoke only Urdu.

Wayne McNeill (waynemcneill) | 50 comments I imagine the situation must have been uncomfortable, especially with 100 of them. I hope they weren't playing at the time. It makes conversation difficult. I don't know if Urdu is a romantic musical language. Maybe it is. I've never heard it close-up. I wish I'd paid attention in French class when I was young. Totally gone now (well, almost). You've created the best site on Goodreads, Andre. My friend Jeanette told me about it. I think it's home.

You're welcome, Wayne. A hundred interviewees together, of any type, and I'd be writing to you from a secure institution now. I leave it up to your imagination whether the secure institution would be for the insane or for an axe murderer.
