I found a review that I think really helps me understand this better.

It sounds very interesting. Very gritty, and very interesting. It reminds me of the back story for one of my favorite Sci-fi novels. A World Out of Time by Larry Niven.
Link edited to be correct.

I haven't read A World Out of Time. It looks good. I'll have to check it out.
Thanks for sharing Kerry's review. I've gotten to talk about the influences and research that went into Whores quite a bit, and it's sparked some interesting discussions with readers. I hope potential readers will check out previous reviews, and interviews, to get a sense for whether it's a setting they'll enjoy.
There's additional information at my goodreads blog with links to my other discussions on it.
Happy reading,
Nic
