Laura | 2 comments I have a Little Golden Book called, The Store-Bought Doll by Lois Meyer. The cover shows a little brown haired girl with braids wearing a calico dress. She is holding a china doll with blonde curls and a fancy pink dress. The time period you mentioned sounds right because the visitor who brings the doll as a gift drives a shiny, very early automobile. The little girl's name is Christina. She lives on a farm with her parents and has a rag doll, named Lucy, that she carries everywhere, climbing trees, outdoor tea parties, rides in the wheelbarrow, etc. Then she receives a beautiful china doll from a man her family helps. Christina is thrilled, and leaves Lucy on the porch steps to play with her new doll. Before long, she realizes that she can't play any of her favorite games with the new doll because it might mess up the doll's hair or dress. At the end, Christina sets her new doll on a stool in the corner of her room, and snuggles up with "dear old Lucy" to go to sleep. It was published in 1983.

You are very welcome. I know how much fun it is to find books I fondly remember. :)
