I agree, that started to get a bit annoying after a while. But it was still great.

(view spoiler)

I think (not sure) that they are between 8 and 11 years old.

Probably! I think Rick Riordan is an amazing writer (2 of his books were nominated) and I really liked the series so far. However, I can't really tell since I haven't read any other in the category. Talking about category, Middle grade, really? I found this link and it said middle grade was from 8 to 12 years old. The content was very mature for this age group (I think).
What was your favorite character?
Leo even despite his constant whining.
Which character, if any, did you struggle with?
Maybe Piper who was too insecure about Jason.
What did you like/dislike about the story?
The whining, otherwise I thought the plot was great.
Did this book interest you enough to read other books written by Rick Riordan
Oh YES!!!

I agree with a lot of what Vanessa said. I don't think it really falls in to Middle School, some of the content just wasn't age appropriate. There was too much whining, I get plenty of that in my day to day life...I don't want to be surrounded by whining kids in my book world too!!! There was a few times in the book where I wanted to yell at them or tell them to suck it up!! I will read the next one when it comes out and maybe I will read the Percy Jackson series at some point to.
One thing that I don't get is the ADHD thing...while it's a cool way to make a large group of kids not seem to weird, I have one of those kids and if she was given a quest in which the fate of the world depended on her completing it? Well....we're doomed!!!!

ROFLOL!! Yeah, these are certainly well focused ADHD kids in Riordan's books.
