Niknik (nik_nik) | 43 comments I just purchased the Kindle version of the book, "Coyote Blue" and the page numbers listed for eISBN-13: 978-1-4391-9148-4 on Goodreads is incorrect.

THE NUMBER OF PAGES ON KINDLE BOOK IS 294 PAGES, not 320.

I found the Kindle version matches the paperback version (ISBN-13: 978-1-4165-5847-7 or ISBN-10: 1-4165-5847-0).
Both those ISBN numbers are listed on the Kindle version.

Can the paperback version listed here on Goodreads, also be listed as a Kindle version?

As you can see from my "currently reading" list, I have selected the Paperback version as the version I am reading, but in truth, I am reading it on Kindle, just purchased thru Amazon.com.

Thank you!!
Nik

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Kindle editions are usually identified by their ASINs, not their ISBNs. Is this your edition?

Nope! Like I said, my version just purchased this a.m. is 294 pages and lists all the ISBN numbers I mentioned.

I do try to make sure I'm not overlooking books already listed on here. But I can't find a 294 page version of the ebook/Kindle.

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments Out of interest, what is the ASIN of the version you bought?

message 5: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 359 comments I'm betting it was this one: B00309CNHG -- which according to the change log once did have 289 pages (still not 294, but closer), was updated to 320 to match publishers website.

Niknik (nik_nik) | 43 comments Emy wrote: "Out of interest, what is the ASIN of the version you bought?"

That's the problem:
Amazon's info doesn't match what the book says when I'm reading it. When reading it tells me I'm on page "3 of 294"
And the "Go To" section (where chapters are listed; syncing to "Farthest Page Read"; etc...) states 294 pages total.

Also, there is no ASIN listed IN my actual book, just the ISBN & eISBN only.

It's as though the book is really the paperback version.

I don't know if it is because I have the newest Kindle Fire 8.9.

But here's what the Amazon website says about the book & it does NOT match what the book states about the ACTUAL book details:

Product Details
File Size: 446 KB
Print Length: 320 pages {NOT WHAT MY KINDLE IS LISTING}
Publisher: Simon & Schuster (December 15, 2009) {I ONLY SEE A COPYRIGHT DATE OF 1994}
Sold by: Simon and Schuster Digital Sales Inc {ACTUALLY SAYS "SIMON & SCHUSTER PAPERBACKS"}
Language: English
ASIN: B00309CNHG {NOT ACTUALLY LISTED IN MY BOOK}

The only reason I'm making such a big deal about this is because it seems to happen with many of my "supposed" ebook purchases.

Niknik (nik_nik) | 43 comments Is there any one else who seems to have the same problems?
Basically, the version that shows up on Kindle appears to be a copy of an actual, physical book...with Amazon's book info listing conflicting details.

???????

I'm so very confused!

Thanks for helping me!

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 359 comments The copyright information pages in the ebooks are generally not updated and just contain the information from the paperback/hardback that they originated from. You aren't going crazy.

Ahhhhh! That would make total sense as to why all the copyright and front page info appears to be directly from the paperback.

Thank you! You've eased my troubled mind! :-)

Unfortunately, for this book, if I want to track my reading, I guess I will have to stick to the paperback version to match up the page numbering.

It's too bad Amazon doesn't actually correlate its own website details with what they actually are selling to people as a Kindle download.

Well, I believe I've taken up enough time on this subject. Thanks for the help and I guess, if you have a Kindle, you might run into this problem often.

Much thanks,
NikNik

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 359 comments Most kindle versions don't have page numbers, I typically just use % updates for my reading progress and note in the comments what chapters it covered for example.

I've used the percentage before so I will probably do so again.
But then again, I've had some books without issues (just finished "11/22/63" by Stephen King & those pages matched ok).

So I guess I'll just have to go book by book.

:-)

Book in hand will trump publisher's information, since a lot of publishers round off their page numbers according to printing standards. I've updated the Kindle edition to 294 pages. I just wanted to make sure we were dealing with the right edition, since there could be more than one. That is irritating that your Kindle won't show you the ASIN internally! It might be stored as part of the file somewhere.

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) | 66 comments I think I bought the same Kindle version (on sale for 1.99, woo!) and I just checked my copy as well. No ASIN listed but the page numbers do read 294 on the Kindle. Grr.

message 14: by Emy (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments The ASIN will be somewhere in the file metadata, but can be hard to extract if you don't use an external programme like Calibre to file ebooks :( It's pretty annoying!

Thank you, I just saw it was added.
How come it only allows a percentage since you entered that it has 294 pages?
Is that because all the info doesn't match up still?

Anyway, I officially switched over to this one & entered a percent just to make sure I could.

It looks like Tima has same problem too. :-)

So, thank you for creating the Kindle-294 page edition!
Much appreciated!

$1.99? When did you get yours?
It was $2.99 today & I couldn't pass up a Chris Moore book so cheap!
Especially when I've read almost all of them!
Very good deal! :-)

I got mine 2 or 3 days ago I think. It was awesome! Lamb was on sale today, also for 1.99! That's how I got Fluke too. The rest of his books I own in print form. I only need one more book to complete my collection, haha.

Click on the percentage sign and it will change back to pages. It toggles.

Niknik (nik_nik) | 43 comments Thanks again for all the help here!
I never thought to ask these questions on the group so it's nice to know there is such a helpful group of book-lovers around when you need it.

OMG, I swear I know that & it didn't work when I asked!

But it does work! Doh!!
Thank you!
