Exactly!!!! The actors for Tris, Eric, and in my opinion Tobias, all just didn't work- especially Tris! I mean if it lets me down I'll never trust movies again!

Riya Erin wrote: "And...has anybody read A Series of Unfortunate Events?"

Of course!!!!!!!!!!!! Which were your favorite books in that series???

message 105: by Erin LM (new)

Erin LM | 160 comments I havent read them yet, I need to get them and I think I will ask a friend to lend them to me or do you know any page whrere I can read them on the internet?

message 106: by Riya (new)

Riya You should definitely read them (just warning you that the middle few are slightly boring, but the first and last ones are all AMAZING)!!!
http://www.epubbud.com/book.php?g=8a8...
pretty much all books are on there, or you could torrent them if you know what that is!!

message 107: by Erin LM (new)

Erin LM | 160 comments Thanks!

message 108: by Daniela (new)

Daniela | 429 comments I think watching the film is a risk im willing to take only because Veronica Roth approved of Shailene and Theo.
i just really hope it turns out atleast true to the books and not another Lightning Thief.

message 109: by Tex (new)

Tex (Texd) | 166 comments If you guys loved The Hunger Games trilogy and Divergent series, you should give The Darkest Minds a shot! I'm currently reading it and all I can say is that it's slightly better than The Hunger Games.

message 110: by Daniela (new)

Daniela | 429 comments I loved THG and Divergent, The Darkest Minds on my To Read list! It sounds kinda similar to Shatter Me.

Well, I started reading The Darkest Minds two days ago, and I'm absolutely loving the characters and the plot.

message 112: by Riya (new)

Riya I think what I'll do is see if everyone on here says it's worth it, if it wasn't for the actress playing Tris I probably would give it a chance!

message 113: by Alison (new)

Alison Morquecho (thebookishcamper) | 525 comments Hmm, I love shailene Woodley, I dunno I think she is gonna make a really good tris, and her heart is fully in her character, I loved this book! I liked insurgent too, except tris got me mad a lot, but it is so worth it!!!

message 114: by Riya (new)

Riya Really- i knew she was on the secret life of the american teenager which automatically makes me hate her with a passion

message 115: by Alison (new)

Alison Morquecho (thebookishcamper) | 525 comments Lol, yea I watched a little of that because I wanted to see how good of an actress she was, and she was pretty good. I also watched the descendants with her in it and she was really good in it. Seeing all the interviews with her and some of her comments she is really into the role of tris and I think that's what makes her the perfect tris. I would def give divergent a try, it was my first series to read after reading the hunger games and I totally fell in love with it. I read divergent in a day and then the next day read insurgent.

message 116: by Daniela (new)

Daniela | 429 comments You're lucky you got to read Insurgent the next day! I had to wait months for it to even come out :( It was a dark time in my life..XD

message 117: by Riya (new)

Riya I don't know- I feel like since she acted on that show she won't be good, especially because I've only heard bad things about her acting on it...

message 118: by Mwanja (new)

Mwanja | 5 comments Susan Beth Pfeffer and her Last Survivors series is the reason why am hooked on dystopians. But IMO Wool series by Hugh Howey is the best ever dystopian. Ashfall by Mike Mullin is also fantastic. Thanks to everyone whos recommended Knife of Never Letting Go, I'll try not to postpone reading it anymore

Finally! Someone who agrees with me!!! I've been looking at interviews with her about Divergent and she isn't as terrible as I originally suspected but I still wish someone else had been cast.

I haven't read Divergent yet (I have it though, i really need to get around to it) But i think it's really unfair how she got two major roles in YA books.
Divergent and The fault in our stars are really popular books, and she got cast for both main roles.

message 123: by Riya (new)

Riya Exactly!!!! They're both such major books, and I feel like the characters would be so different that unless you're the best actor of all time one person can't give both parts justice

message 124: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) Riya wrote: "Exactly!!!! They're both such major books, and I feel like the characters would be so different that unless you're the best actor of all time one person can't give both parts justice"

Isn't the male main role in The fault in our stars, Playing her brother in Divergent too?
Probably not as major, since it's not a main character, but yeah.
I don't like John Greens book myself, but i know there's alot of people that are looking forward to both movies.

message 125: by Riya (new)

Riya I've only read bits and pieces of The Fault In Our Stars (also not a huge fan), but I know that it's a completely different role from Tris and both movies have so many standards to live up to and I feel the actress won't be able to live up to either

message 126: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Lindsay (kaitlynlindsay) I need suggestions! I'm pretty new to this genre, my experience not extending too far past Hunger Games, which, I might add was a great into to the genre. What are some MUST read series/books? I've read some pretty lame stuff trying to get into this genre, so help me out people! :)

message 127: by Riya (new)

Riya Well Kate, you've come to the right place. Here are a few of my favorite dystopian book/series: Divergent, The Maze Runner, Legend, Gone, Uglies, Variant, Unwind, the Knife of Never Letting Go. Those are my favorites- sorry if there's so many but I love them all :)

message 128: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Lindsay (kaitlynlindsay) Ooooh, I've read Uglies (but haven't read the others in the series yet) thank you for your recommendations!!!

message 129: by Riya (last edited Jun 29, 2013 01:25PM) (new)

Riya No problemo :) and you should definitely read the next books after Uglies- they're all so awesome!

message 130: by shrish (new)

shrish (orshay) Can someone suggest a YA Dystopian book, which isn't a very long series?

message 131: by Riya (new)

Riya The knife of never letting go: 3 books
Variant: 2 books right now (not sure if there are more)
The Maze Runner: 3-4 books (if you read the prequel)
Uglies: 3-4 books (there's an extra, somewhat related one)
Legend: 2 books right now (3rd one still coming out)

message 132: by chucklesthescot (last edited Jul 03, 2013 06:55AM) (new)

chucklesthescot I MUST recommend the book I just finished this morning as it was a 5 star read which is very rare for me!

The Moon Dwellers (The Dwellers, #1) by David Estes

my review(spoiler free): http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Sarah | 78 comments Is there a book to try to find if your a fan of bizarro fic, totalitarian states, and GLBT protagonists?

I'm sort of a fan of Carlton Mellick III.

message 134: by Dusty (new)

Dusty Crabtree (dustycrabtree) | 9 comments Thanks for the recommendations, guys! I'm adding some to my tbr list now. The Divergent series is right up there with The Hunger Games for me!

Plus, it's old, but if anyone hasn't read Fahrenheit 451 yet, do it! It's my absolute favorite thing I teach!

message 135: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 78 comments One of my favorites, hands down. Clarisse is one of my favorite characters. Rebellious without becoming annoyingly so.

message 136: by Dusty (new)

Dusty Crabtree (dustycrabtree) | 9 comments I know, Clarisse is awesome!

message 137: by Daniela (new)

Daniela | 429 comments Fahrenheit 451 has been on my TBR shelf for a while, I'm going to have to get to it sooner!

message 138: by Riya (new)

Riya Yeah it's been number one on my TBR shelf for years!! We should read it together Daniela!

message 139: by Riya (new)

Riya Have you tried the Gone series? or the Chaos Walking trilogy?

message 140: by Daniela (new)

Daniela | 429 comments Riya wrote: "Yeah it's been number one on my TBR shelf for years!! We should read it together Daniela!"

Yea that sounds fun!:D

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 1040 comments Amelia wrote: "Chaos walking didn't seem very ... interesting to me. No offense :P

Gone's on my reading list, although I've heard mixed stuff about it as well. I'll probably read it after the Divergent series :)!"

If you liked The Maze Runner, you'll love Gone! It's really addicting :)

message 142: by Riya (new)

Riya Haha Amelia- I honestly thought it was only okay, but everyone else really loves it! You should definitely try Gone though, that's definitely one of my favorites- and of course you should try Divergent!!!!

Awesome Daniela- I plan on creating a buddy reads section for the group soon, so maybe that can be the first one!!!

message 143: by Daniela (new)

Daniela | 429 comments Great :D

Brenda Burchell Wise | 26 comments Amelia wrote: "I'm looking for something similar to the Maze Runner, which was awesome. Any ideas?

I still have to read about 90 books until the end of the year to reach my 100 books/year target :P!"

Hi Amelia, I loved the Maze Runner series and think you might like Enclave trilogy or The Hunt by Fukuda!!! :)

message 145: by Riya (new)

Riya OO- I'm just about to start Enclave!!

message 146: by Sarah (last edited Jul 12, 2013 02:12PM) (new)

Sarah | 78 comments Not sure if I asked for a rec.

Ah are there any dystopian novels, about boys and their grovels? I know of little brother, but I'm not sure if there are any other.

Ideally present day or near future.

message 147: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Burchell Wise | 26 comments Riya wrote: "OO- I'm just about to start Enclave!!"

A | 50 comments ummm can anyone help me?? I have few days to read freely before I dive into my massive pile of school work...I want to read something interesting...so what should I read next??

Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee or Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout or Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White

message 149: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 1040 comments Angelfall is awesome!!! I was underwhelmed with Obsidian but I'm not exactly the target market :)

message 150: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 1040 comments Unwind is one of my top five dystopian series, live it!! Not much romance (which seemed appropriate) and an awesome plot (although somewhat disturbing at times) that has you on the edge of your seat! And I found the sequel to be even better. The Knife of Never Letting Go series is one of the few dystopians that I rate higher than this one :)
