Jenna | 581 comments Looking for books with a similar premise to The Blue Nowhere, wherein the crime is centered around computers (or similar devices, phones, etc) and the protagonists are chasing after criminals that use computers to create viruses or identity theft or similar crimes. Prefer mysteries set in present or recent past, not futuristic or sci-fi. Thanks for any suggestions.

Ensu (ensumas) | 9 comments Since you seem to like Jeffery Deaver, have you tried The Broken Window and Roadside Crosses? Each are part of a series, but can also be read on its own.

Jenna | 581 comments Thanks, Ensu for suggestion; I got tired after a while of Lincoln Rhyme but Broken Window sounds interesting!

Rapidio | 7 comments Perhaps you would enjoy the Kidd novels by John Sanford, a generally excellent author. Titles include The Fools Run, The Empress file, and The Hangman's Code and maybe a couple of others. Hope this helps

A Shadow Intelligence. Deepfake videos are used to incriminate innocent protagonist (e.g. putting him in a room where he appears to be conspiring with a bad guy). Lots of hacking. Fake social media accounts are influencing political uprisings.

Gillian Wiseman (gillianwiseman) | 241 comments Ready Player One has a lot of these elements, although it is pure SF.

Artemis by Andy Weir, same.

Jenna is still looking for these books.

"So I am interested in mysteries in which the main focus is cybercrimes/hackers that sort of stuff. Or Hackers turned good/white hat hackers, or people working online in deep web to uncover sex/child trafficing rings/child grooming sites, et.

Example of what I think of includes:

The Blue Nowhere by Jeffrey Deaver

as I recall, some of the P.J. Tracy Monkeywrench novels have an expert hacker (?)

The short-lived CSI: Cybercrimes with Patricia Arquette TV show

I am sure once people start suggesting things I'll be saying "Oh, yeah, I have read that and forgot..."

Thanks in advance for your assistance and suggestions!"

Please note that the easiest way to find an old thread you began is to click on "My Group Topics" on this group's home page, above the moderator photos. This shows you the threads you've started.

Rosemary Holmstrom | 7 comments Hi - one book I would suggest is Come and Find Me by Hallie Ephron. About hackers and computer virtual world. Very suspenseful.

Thanks - that is helpful...I looked under my name, but got lost in all the random comments I've made....

Thanks! I added it to my TBR pile and will check to see if my library has it. It does sound interesting.
