Michael (michaeljsullivan) Has anything in this first book sparked suspicions in your mind. Here is your chance to play clairvoyant sleuth.

message 2: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) Royce's excellent vision makes me suspicious. I think I know why he can see so well, I guess future books will let me know if I'm right. (I hope I have the right character. My son's friend hasn't returned my copy yet.)

message 3: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments Sounds like you need to hunt that boy down, Sandi....and I think you posted your suspicion somewhere else, didn't you? If that's the one I'm thinking of, I'm with you.....there's definitely something to it...

message 4: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) I don't think I posted my suspicion anywhere. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

message 5: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments It might have been someone else then, or I'm a mind reader...the first is possible, since TCC is getting some good press on several groups now and there are tons of reviews........

SPOILER ALERT

Agreed as to Royce, good vision, stealthy mover, really defensive of Elves . . .

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments She's thinking what we're thinking, Sandi....

message 8: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeljsullivan) This is sort of funny. Everyone here I assume have read TCC and no one has read Avempartha, so there can't be such a thing as a spoiler unless Robin or I spill it.

Everyone here is merely guessing, and any guess is as good as any other, although it is clear some people feel pretty confident in their sleuthing.

I remember being certain about Snape's allegiance while reading the Potter series--thought it was obvious, but a good number of people felt I was crazy. One friend even bet me money. I was right.

Still it wasn't a spoiler to voice my speculation anymore than it is for you to do here. None of you know anything for certain, and I warn you, there are twists even Robin could not foresee. Actually there are a few I didn't either.

I am actually anxious to see comments on Avempartha because a great many people are convinced of certain facts at the end of TCC that are revealed to be untrue or at least far more complicated than first expected.

message 9: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) I was right about Snape too. ;)

Me too.....^5

message 11: by Leslie Ann (new)

Leslie Ann (leslieann) | 224 comments I'm suspicious the royal lineage of Essendon is is not entirely human because of what the archduke screamed at Alric during the final battle scene. He called Alric and Arista 'filth' and 'not human', which leads me to believe they have elven blood somewhere in their ancestry.

message 12: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments which makes me wonder if......ahhh..

message 13: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) That's what I was suspecting too Leslie...I suppose we'll see...

message 14: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) I totally missed that.

message 15: by Elena (last edited Apr 05, 2009 05:20AM) (new)

Elena Yes, I remember the "you are not human" line. I don't remember how their mother died. Maybe they (I don't know who)killed her because she was something other than human? We know Arista has something of a wizard on her.

message 16: by Amy (new)

Amy (amyhageman) I think there's some secret in Hadrian's background - his expertise in swordplay makes me suspicious. (A family with a younger son named Wesley who went to sea was mentioned at some point...this could be a connection, but it's something of a stretch at this point.)

I'm also curious about Esrahaddon's interest in Myron. I can imagine a future working relationship for them.

While I believe there are solid hints as to Royce and the royals being somehow descendents of the Elves - I agree with Henry that anything very obvious in a book is often there to mislead. I think we'll see quite a few surprising twists.

A crazy thought of mine is that Gwen might be of Elven descent - that would explain Royce being so defensive of them. But that's a wild guess of mine.

message 18: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I think Royce has to be at least partly Elven. His attributes make me think so, but I'm going to guess he's only 1/4 elven because he doesn't seem to have enough hatred of man to have suffered too directly. He also doesn't have enough identifying features to get picked on for being so. I'm sure a loved one has suffered, but it's been a long time.

I hadn't thought of Gwen being partly Elven. I didn't read enough about her to get a sense of that. Good thought.

Michael (michaeljsullivan) Someone is really going to have to archive this discussion thread in the event this group follows up with the rest of the series. I suspect all of you who posted here will find re-reading your comments very entertaining.

It must be really fun watching these discussions when you already know the outcome!

message 21: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Snicker away, Michael, but keep writing & do so faster! I'm ready for the third book!
;-)

Nice catch...I won't say what you caught..but you found a passing comment that will be a thread at some point.

A hint! A hint! Yipee!

(as an aside you can probably tell from my posts that I'm not a patient reader - now knowing the outcome of the ENTIRE series is very trying for me - I know that's the fun but it's still hard)

message 24: by Libby (new)

Libby | 242 comments Correction - that would be "not knowing" not "now knowing" - if only I knew!
