Michael Burge | 4 comments Hi there, my name is Mike and I live with my husband Richard on a tiny island just off the coast of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia.

I am very new to book clubs ... I have never joined one (either in the real world or the virtual).

I love novels and am sitting here in my library, which is about as full as it can be with my favourites. I don't have an e-reader yet. I love paper underneath my fingers.

I'm a journalist and a writer and I blog at http://burgewords.wordpress.com

My favourite authors include Helen Garner, Annie Proulx, Helene Hanff, Janet Frame, E M Forster, Sumner Locke Elliott and Russell Hoban.

I look forward to adding to that list through Queereaders.

Michael Burge | 4 comments Thanks Justin, yeah, I guess we are neighbours in the scheme of things!

Nancy | 2838 comments Welcome, Michael! That's an interesting list of favorite authors. I've only read Annie Proulx. I vaguely remember the 1990 film based on Janet Frame's autobiography and I loved the charming 84 Charing Cross Road. I imagine the book was even better.

Michael Burge | 4 comments Thanks Nancy, sounds like you're a film buff, like me! Funny how film adaptations kind of "replace" books. I am hoping to re-read "An Angel at my Table" again soon (the Janet Frame autobiography), but I reckon Jane Campion's film must be one of the best adaptations of a book, ever.
