I agree. I disliked how whenever America thought about Aspen in the books, all she could say she loved about him was that he was a part of her past, before she came to the palace. And she seems completely oblivious to the fact that he's a jerk—and I hate how she's always so ready to forgive him, but so wary of Maxon.

I'm definitely on Team Aspen. I never liked Maxon and how he "cheats" on America. I understand that it's all part of the selection process, but it doesn't fit in with his character. He's the sweet, genuine guy, yet he makes out with another girl. To me, it doesn't tie together.

I also think that Kiera writes so much about Maxon, that it's hard to get a good grip on Aspen's character. He was so hurt when America left, he even came back for her! Come on guys, he's a sweetie. Plus him and America have a history and a past, they have chemistry. I'm in love with Aspen. If America doesn't chose him, I'll have him. That's fine. GO ASPEN GO

I'm here. i'm in team aspen. always been there and always will be. seriously i dont know why everyone else is so cray about maxon. aspen's way more thoughtful and caring than maxon and plus he knew her for two friggin' years and he gave her those pennies even when he didnt had any extra money on him and he always felt like he didnt deserved her... :'( aww aspen

I'm kind of torn between the two. I really like Maxon better though.

While I was reading The Elite, I read to the part where America catches Maxon and Celeste. I PUT THE BOOK DOWN AND RAGE QUIT. Right then I was thinking TEAM ASPEN FOR THE WIN, Maxon should go party with his whores. So I'm team Aspen until I get the courage to pick my book back up.

****IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE ELITE THERE ARE SPOILERS AHEAD!!****

I was actually shocked that so many people prefer Maxon. He creeped me out with his sleazy "my dears." And for being supposedly shy around the ladies he's awfully slick. I thought it was disgusting how he pretends to be interested in all of the girls but he admitted to America that he couldn't stand two of them in the Elite. He just seems very slippery (like an eel) and two-faced to me. His making out with Celeste also shows something about his character. He said that he did it because he wanted to feel that there was someone who "cared" about him because she was mad at him. So what happens when he and his future wife fight? He runs off to the first available woman? He said he wanted to be with America, so why can't he stay committed to her while she's deciding? If he didn't want to wait for her to make up her mind he should have admitted it instead of telling her he would give her time. Running off with other girls is not the way to show a girl who's already confused that you are the best choice. He should have waited until she cooled off after what happened with Marlee and then explained the situation. Of course she's going to be angry and unsure about him after that! I thought it was really selfish of him to expect her to just get over seeing her best friend beaten in public. There's a million other reasons I don't like him, but I will stop here.

As strange as this sounds, I greatly admire Aspen for breaking up with America. He did that because he was more concerned with her future happiness than his own. Poverty is nothing to sneeze at. It also showed that he was able to think clearly. He had a hard enough time making sure his mom and siblings were fed, adding a wife and future children would have been disastrous. Remember she said that the lower castes did not have access to birth control, so they probably would have had baby after baby (think 19 Kids and Counting). He saw that America had a chance at a better future and he knew she would never take it if they were together. When he was drafted as a guard that completely changed the dynamic. Being a 2 and having a good job he could now afford to support both a wife and his family. They would have access to birth control, so they wouldn't have kid after kid. I do dislike the way he keep putting America in danger by sneaking around with her, but all in all he is the better guy in my opinion.

Personally though, I think America is a pretty terrible person and not good enough for Aspen. I kinda think she and Maxon deserve each other.

Usually with books that have love triangles, I'd either fall for one guy and like the other one too but love the first one more, and this may or may not result in my hating the heroine. With The Selection, I can definitely say Aspen is ''The One'' for me and I feel like he is for America. You guys took the words out of my mouth; whilst Maxon can have his adorable moments with Ames, he has nothing to lose. He could choose any girl he wanted [I mean, he does have a ''selection''] I feel like even if America left him for Aspen, then he'd be hurt, yes, because I think anyone would be, but possibly move on and like someone else. With Aspen, however, he has EVERYTHING to lose. Their love for each other was what kept Aspen working hard everyday. America is the reason why his family has food on the table, why they have money, why he hasn't given up yet. She kept him driven and alive. Without America, Aspen's world is literally over. Like Yonina said, whilst Maxon may give her a lot of love, Aspen would give his whole heart to her. He's so passionate about her and I honestly don't get that from Maxon, but I still do like Maxon. I just don't like him for her, you know? And also, I don't think anyone has ever give Aspen a chance *except you lovelies here, SO GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE ON TEAM ASPEN! :D xox*; I think because we've seen Maxon and Ames' relationship grow more people are team Maxon, because they don't know what Aspen is like. They only see the Aspen who wants his Queen back. Aspen isn't a ''jerk'' for letting her go; he only wanted what was best for her and couldn't live with himself knowing that she could've been in a castle than stuck working hours and hours each day. I think that is immensely sweet, and really, they never did break up. He just wanted her to try. Also, Mer's dad said to her that he wouldn't mind a bit if she fell in love/ married an 8, just that the circumstances could make or break a relationship. Maybe Aspen worried that if they got married, which he wanted so much, then it would be so hard to live and he didn't want her to starve or work so hard. I think we'd all want the best for the person we love.

I don't Aspen is selfish AT ALL; he wanted America to sign up for the selection so that she could have a better lifestyle, or try to get one, so she wouldn't have to keep starving or working. This pretty much shows that he cares more about her happiness than his own. He gave up his free time to work harder so the twins, Kamber and Celia, could continue their drama sessions and not work. He gave up a lot of his free time, actually, to provide for his family just so that they were strong and kept going. He was the oldest out of 7 kids and their father had passed away too. This guy has given up A LOT, and not just for America, for other people too. I think people think that, again, because we got to see Maxon and America's relationship grow and haven't seen enough with America and Aspen to compare. I admire Aspen as a person so much, I look up to him too. Yeah, he might be getting Mer into dangerous situations at times, but I can't even blame him. He's lost so much. If I was in his shoes, I'd give up everything to see the person who kept me going, who made him happy. Wouldn't you?

Also, people say that she did stay at the castle for a reason, but I'm thinking: ''wouldn't you if you were working hard and ate little food everyday?'' I'm sure anyone would want to live in a One's or Two's house after that.

I really do hope that Aspen is America's choice, because it feels so right to me that they're together. I hope Kiera Cass takes this into a lot of thought and consideration because I do dislike it sometimes when the author takes into consideration of what the fans want and not what would make sense, not saying that Maxon and Ames together wouldn't make sense, just that I feel as if [again] Aspen has so much to lose and I feel his love for Mer. So.Freakin'.Much.

I also hope we get more Aspen and Mer moments, because we definitely need to see and equal side to both relationships. To make it fair.

I realllly hope there is a big twist to all of this. I'd love for America to choose Aspen, though Maxon is also cool *I do prefer Aspen hehehehehe*, and we'll see who is ''The One.'' I just hope the story line is still strong because I don't want it to be just about her choice.

All in all, Aspen all the way! <3
p.S: I VERYYYYY much agree with Emma. Although I didn't find Maxon too bad, I just didn't love him like Aspen. He was kinda creepy at times, though, and I felt like he wasn't ''real'' enough. Aspen is; he's only doing the natural thing. Fight for what he loves. It might seem harsh to ''fight'', but really, I don't think he'd fight Maxon physically. Just try to win Mer back over.

God, I love Aspen so much.

I totally agree. if he was really so confident that America loved him and that he loved her he would leave her the fuck alone and wait for her so that she doesn't end up beaten or worse. and if he's gonna let his pride get in the way of them being together than she should see that all he wants is for her to idolize him

Well some people do like Aspen, but it doesn't mean they're right! ;) Honestly, I think people only liked Aspen for the first five seconds of the book before falling in love with Maxon. :D

I totally agree! I think that in the first book, Maxon and America were amazing, and then Keira Cass was too hard on Maxon in the second book, trying to make it more of a love triangle and not an "America x Maxon with Aspen randomly thrown in there". I like America better than Kriss though. Aspen is too impatient with America. He doesn't give her time and he wants to be with her right away. While I loved her in the 1st book, I didn't like her half and half attitude in the second. :D

Ok I'm with Maxon all the way but I see where the people who like Aspen are coming from. Just remember, in the Selection, when America was being sent off, she sees Aspen holding another girl and they were smiling with each other. When Aspen comes into the castle, he tells America that that girl is a klutz and she fell into him. I don't think the story matches. I was disappointed with Maxon when he kissed the other girl and he was seduced so easily, but I do believe that he truly loves America.

I'm definitely team Aspen! Maxon annoyed me. The things he said were tooooo cheesy and had me eye rolling. I loved Aspen and America's relationship way more. He was her first love also. I think it would have been a better ending if they would have found a way back to each other. I think her and Maxon were better as friends and he should have ended up with Kriss.

I ship Maxon and America more but I personally like Aspen's character more. Yes it's true that he broke up with America but it was only because he wanted the best for her. But after he was ready to do anything to get her back. How could you forgive Maxon for his stupid mistakes but not Aspen? Maxon in been through a lot because of his father but Aspen in been through more. He was the one providing for his family after his dad's death. He never cheated on America. He started having a relationship with Lucy when things were done with America but Maxon made out with Celeste because he wanted to use her. Like seriously? But I ship Maxon and America more and obviously, Aspen's match is Lucy.

Aspen was great, but he was just a little too tough guy for me. I like Maxon because he loved America, but gave her the time she needed. He was patient and always open. I feel that Aspen was too proud and pretty insensitive when dead set on "fighting" for America. If he had taken it slower and didn't push her as much, maybe America would have chosen him.

I know no one has commented in like a billion years, but I have to say this. Team Aspen totally is a thing!!!!!!!!! Aspen is so much better, in so many ways.

I've loved Aspen since the very beginning tbh until the very end of the series. And when I read Happily Ever After before The Crown came out I fell in love with him even more. I am very glad he found Lucy though. I prefer them more than Aspen and America. Sometimes I felt like America brought him down or held him back or just played around with his feelings sometimes so I was glad to read that he found someone who had gone through the same things he had. Him and Lucy are perfect as Maxon and America are perfect.

You're not the only one, TRUST ME. Everyone I've heard from who's read The Selection says that they're in love with Maxon and they think Aspen is horrible too. However, I'm Team Aspen all the way.

When we first introduced to Aspen, I loved his character. When Maxon entered the scene, I was not very happy and was definitely still Team Aspen. However, as the storyline developed, Aspen seemed to be slightly selfish, and cared more about his own personal feelings then what Mare wanted or needed. He seems too hot headed and does not consider the consequences of his actions.

I feel like Aspen is a good guy, and I love how Cass includes him in the Heir and Crown. However I'm still bitter about the whole " sign up for the selection, how could you like Maxon?, Now I'm with Lucy but I'm not going to tell you" thing.
