My first in this series, and of course since I'm a RIO (read in order) it's the first in the series. A fun read, welcome to the world of Wizard Extraordinaire Harry Dresden.

Knots and Crosses by Ian Rankin
I'm finally following through with my goal to read the John Rebus series. Edinburgh police detective Rebus is pretty down and out, but manages to follow the clues deliberately left for him by a serial killer of teenage girls. A bit slow start, but the last third was gripping. I'm now reading number 2, Hide and Seek.

The Woods by Harlan Coben
I listened to this standalone and it was pretty good. I posted my detailed reactions on the AOL Spoiler Board {sob!} but it was just believable enough and twisty enough without going over the top.

A Kiss of Shadows by Laurell K. Hamilton
I almost never reread books but after finishing the most recent in the Princess Meredith Gentry series, Sawllowing Darkness, I felt the urge to go back to the beginning and reintroduce myself to the main players in this great series. Princess Merry is heir to the Unseelie throne but is self-exiled because her cousin Cel wants her dead. Her whereabouts are exposed and she is called home by her deadly aunt, Queen Andais. Just as enjoyable the second time around, and I have book 2 on my TBR.

CR: The World According to Bertie by Alexander McCall Smith; Hide and Seek by Ian Rankin; Breakthrough by Gwen Ifill

and I had just found the rather nice thread on the Spoilers Welcome board with several comments on Harlan's [Book:The Woods] and replied to several of them. (sniff) :(

You have reminded me I need to get back to catching up on the Ian Rankin and Jim Butcher books!

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments I've been thinking, Ann, and wonder if we might start either a Spoiler thread in this group, or a separate Spoiler group. We didn't use it much, but when there was a burning question to be answered, or when someone was dying to see what others thought, that was the place to go. I still fondly remember some of the vigorous discussions (Shutter Island, anyone? snicker)

Sherry | 4517 comments oh i like the idea of a separate spoiler board, even if we don't use it all the time. makes it easier to discuss books without giving anything away.
maybe cathy could start it with that post of hers that i had been saving on the aol board about testimony by anita shreve. i put testimony temporarily aside to read long lost.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16929 comments I think it would be good to have a Spoiler area to keep those threads separate but visible within this group. There are sub headings on one of the other groups main page (Readers and Reading) to categorize their threads, where currently all of our threads are under a 'General' topic header -- I wonder if we could make a few sub header areas for different sorts of threads here.

Since Cheryl set up this group, she could probably most easily up headings within this group. I could figure it out but don't know if the creator has privileges that the rest of us don't.

What I have in mind, Cheryl, or anyone, is a heading for Spoiler Talk (call it whatever makes sense -- "Books We've Read, Spoilers Welcome" was the name of the AOL board. Then, make someone could create a thread to take suggestions of other topics in this group, or whether to have them at all. I'd do it but I'm supposed to be working and just couldn't resist the call to see who had responded to my post. If nothing has happened when I log on again (to spend time) I'll see if I can do it.

Cheryl | 547 comments The board seems to show posts threaded. We could have one thread called Spoiler Talk or when someone wants a discussion of a specific book, start a thread with the title (ie - Spoiler Talk - The Woods). Anyone can start a thread. If you want a separate board that would have to be done by someone. (It's easy)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9484 comments Okay, I'll figure out how to do later. I think we want to limit the number of threads (as opposed to topics, which this discussion is) so we can easily navigate back and forth. So for example I'd be in favor of a "Spoiler Talk" thread but not a "Spoiler Talk, The Woods" thread. That would be a "topic," like "Carol's March Reads" is a topic. I'm not sure what threads are called in Goodreadsspeak, but what I'm looking for is something similar to what now is our only thread, General.

I love that I can edit my post! I just looked over at the Book Nook group and they are calling these major areas, like "General," folders. I've asked how to create them.

Cheryl | 547 comments Carol - I'm on my way out so I don't have time to play with it, but on the home page for the group in the upper right hand corner, you will see a list. If you click on discussions, you should see something about folders (add or edit). That breaks the discussion topics into groups. It seems you could have a Spoiler folder with individual book discussions under that.
